Somalia Elephants 2004-2014 Complete BU Set with pics (2014 below)

I just bought my first one (2014) the other day. I may have to work on a herd as well.

Thanks Jwt708. The Bavarian State Mint did a very good job minting the coins. Their proof-like appearance (my poor picture taking doesn't do them justice) is what first got me interested in the coins. After I bought a couple 2013s I did a lot of research to learn everything I could about the series and that propelled me to hunt down all the coins in the Somalia African Wildlife Elephant series.

I have the whole series also. Now I am working on completing them in the gilded versions. The Zambia Elephants started in 1999 and ended in 2003. Then the series went to Somalia. The Proof sets are really hard to find. They include a 2 oz. 1, 1/2 and a 1/4th oz. coin. Then there are the colorized and the high relief versions. I love the fact that each year is different. I still love the ASE, but it is the same year after year. You only get a variation if you buy a special set like the 2006 and on sets that pop up. I also like the Rwanda wildlife series that varies each year.

 

By the way, it seems the 2005 Somalia Elephant carries a higher premium than the 2004 version. Anyone know why?
