I like the Canada 50 cent piece. Looks like something Sponge Bob might carry in his pocket.

The uncirculated one dollar Generals commem looks like it may have a shot at a mintage in the low 20k's. Whether or not that'll translate to any future premium though is anybodys guess.

The coin below is an example of the clue-less designers at Canada's own mis-managed, Royal Canadian Mint. From Superman on Gold coins to Aliens in canoes, they dream it all up at the tax-payers expense. One can only assume they spend their there noon lunch breaks doing drugs in the parking lot or are under the influence of some other kind of narcotic when they show up for work. And lets not forget about the missing 17,500 ounces of gold a few years back. I did see one nicely designed coin but it gold plated.

in a more mainstream series the Wunc silver eagle looks to have a low mintage, so far. they could go off sale anytime as it gets near year end

I guess it's the beauty of Canada putting a starfish on a coin. I have lived here 54 years and the only star-fish I ever saw was in Florida. But keep buying those RCM coins, it helps with the egos of those other-wise useless designers.

I love Rush BTW, but that's for another time.

I agree about the RCM. I collect a Maple Leafs and have purchased a couple other coins directly from the mint. But my general impression of the designs are they lack detail and a lot seem "cartoonish".

What was the designer of this coin smoking?

Whatever it was he got it from the shaman who inspired the coin.

I think OP is asking what keys have come out of 2013, though it may have become tangential.

My pick is the G$5 MacArthur 5-Star Generals commemorative. As it stands, the mintage is very close to the 1997 G$5 Jackie Robinson commemorative, which landed just over 5,000. MacArthur is holding at 4,600, give or take. At $424 on the Mint website, it's a pretty good bet. The MS70 examples are the most populous, so you stand a good chance of getting it from NGC. PCGS have an even split between MS69 and MS70.

Either way, with the cost of the coin, shipping, and certification, you still make money in the short-term.
