How can some retailers sell the American Eagle 1-ounce silver coin for half the price that the US Mint charges?

Why does the US Mint charge twice as much as the current price of silver?

And lastly, can anyone recommend a reputable retailer?

    Thank you for your help.

The U.S. Mint only sells numismatic silver eagles. I'm assuming you are probably seeing bullion silver eagles at coin shops. The Mint doesn't sell bullion coins to the general public, just dealers. That is probably the reason you are seeing the difference in prices.

Right, but let me add that when the mint collector's eagles get resold, they sell for what the market will bear, which is sometimes less than the amount paid to the mint.

What kind of coins are you looking for ? Some dealers specialize in certain coins , some in gold and some in moderns and silver .
