    Hello, new to this forum!

I am having a hard time finding a value for this dime. Is it a mint error or did it end up in the hands of a curious high school chemistry student?

    1980 P dime
    ribbed edges
    sounds like copper
    seems to tarnish like copper

The dime weighs approx. 2.37g, I would like to double check with another scale though. What do you think?

well, normal weight is 2.27g. If it was missing a layer it should weigh less. 2 layers missing should be a significant loss in weight. Plus it would only be 1/3 as thick as it should be, resulting in a weak strike. I'm thinking that this dime is just discolored or maybe plated, since it weighs .1g heavy. Keep looking, though. You'll find something. :)

Would be nice to have a photo and an accurate weight X.XX grams. Also when you photo graph it, use a white or a gray background so we can see the coloration. The dime in this thread had the white balance way off. Jim

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say .10 cents.
