Yea, when I was out in Vegas I picked on up along with an MS64 Morgan. The picture came free.... Could also buy a $2 bill signed by all 4 members of Pawn Stars... but I seen silver as the better choice.
i lose respect for ngc more and more with garbage like this, no integrity just anything to make a dollar nowadays.
One of those sold for $155.00 last night on ebay. I guess people really like the show, so do I, but 155.00 it's bit pricey for me
http://secureshop.gspawn.com/chumlee-one-troy-oz-silver-medallion-p3377.aspx Chumlee available for too, plus I see the Old Man's for $80.00 (NGC)
I honestly don't have a problem with this. Obviously there is demand for them or they wouldn't do it. If this is a problem...then people shouldn't be buying them. If they couldn't sell them then they wouldn't slab them.
Undertand your reply completely. Free markets, right? To me these are silver rounds and not coins, that's all.
Regardless of demand, cheese is cheese. Some things just are not worth the extra money, and in my most humble opinion, slabbing overpriced novelty rounds that depict fictional characters on a cheesy scripted "reality" show is one of them.
Honestly, I agree with you that it is not in the spirit of our hobby and is cheesy...and I won't ever buy one. But, I don't think it cheapens the hobby nor do I think that NGC is selling out.
And yet people see no issue with paying a few hundred dollars for a slab bed ASE. What's the difference? Both are cheesey bullion rounds.
I would argue there is a different...but it's small. The ASE is a government issued coin...with a face value and is legal tender. These silver rounds are not. A slabbed ASE is no different than any other slabbed coin. I don't see a lot of value/purpose in slabbing a modern piece when we know it's authentic and high grade. The difference between 68-70 doesn't mean anything to me.
I'll bet they sell for no premium at all. These guys are just like the chopper builders from several years ago (Orange County). They were a huge thing for a few years...and they cashed in. And now, forgotten. Same thing here.
