Wondering if anyone here was gonna grab that one. Had that on the watch list, but went too high and I was worried a little about possible AT or "Questionable Color" on that one. I've seen a bunch of toned coins from that seller that I'm unsure about so I always wonder. Good grab, take some better pics when you get it in hand if you wouldn't mind.
I recently bought the early silver Ike's in MS66 ('71) and the rest in MS67. Didn't kill the pocket book, but I think there is potential for a nice return in the future. Funny thing is I learned about these while watching Rick Tomaska on Art and Coin TV. I didn't buy from him, but was made aware of the potential by him. Edit to add: I have a '71 PF69* in the original brown box graded by NGC. I was lucky enough to add this at a very nice price.
You were right to be cautious. It is AT, just like every toned coin he sells. Once in awhile one will make it into a slab though.
Not only have i bought slabbed coins showing the same toning pattern i have bought them from this particular seller, so have others here as well what makes you think its AT?
This coin here was purchased by me from the same seller and was graded in a PCGS slab along with a security shield meaning it went under the coin sniffer. It exhibits what i would consider a similar toning pattern....
Like I said, some make it into slabs. We both know that means nothing. This is why I think know they are AT. he uses the same solution for silver and clad coins. Although the AT is a little less obvious on silver. Ridiculous clad toning: Oops, he left it on a little too long for the Kennedy: Never give up, never surrender! Ike's are getting boring, let's try a commem! Also, I have purchased a "toned" coin from the seller in the past. I immediately proved my theory when I received the coin. I can prove it by the way I remove the toning. Natural toning would not have been removed.... This toning is a foreign layer on the surface of the coin and not on the actual coin itself.
Well I find that the evidence you have presented is hard to ignore and will have to send it back, good thing the seller has a return policy. I hope you don't think i was picking a fight or anything just wanted some clarification thats all.
Greg, thanks for confirming, but it stinks it has to come at a price... Here's a link to one of the other auctions he has so you can see for yourself his info for anyone who wants to know: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1974-S-Proo...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Heck no Matthew! That didn't even cross my mind. I really didn't even want to say anything. Everyone should buy what they like. My evidence is circumstantial and here-say. Take it for what it's worth. I prefer folks to come to their own conclusions.
I have previously purchased from that seller as well, and after taking to some guys over on the Ike Group, the seller is a known coin doctor. Sold off my examples.
Got some grades back and boy am I excited! 1971-S PR68DCAM If you know what to look for you will know why I am so excited about this coin! And then there is this little dandy... Far more obvious, MS68+ Let me know what you guys think!
Awesome 1972! You went the extra mile for the TrueView, looks great. You probably already know this, but make sure to grab the max resolution versions too. Not sure if they send those to you by default or not, as I've never used the service myself, but I do have a purchased coin that had it done in the past.
