I was fortunate enough to receive over 46 silver half dollars, a mix of Walking Liberty's, Ben Franklin's, and JFK's, from my grandfathers collection. He got every silver half from his local bank which, to the best of my knowledge he has been going to since 1949. Over the years he got to know the tellers and after 1964, they started saving and giving him every silver coin they came across. Before that he told me he would buy a roll of silver coins here and there and tuck them away. Here are some photos from that collection starting with the Franklins.
I agree... coins that are given to you by relatives are special and should be kept. I regret selling mine in 1969 to finance my first marriage (the two biggest mistakes of my life).
I'll keep adding photo's of the Franklin's I took. I only got pics of the obverses, that in itself took awhile to do. Some pics are better than others. It is interesting to see these coins out of their cardboard 2x2's after 35+ years. Before that gramps just had them all in old small storage type boxes. On a side note, my grandmother just told me she's saved every single $2.00 bill I've ever given her since I was a kid. She told me she had a small fortune in them and giggled. Makes me wonder exactly how many I gave her. She couldn't recall other than to say "A lot!" LOL.
Here is a better shot of the toned 1962 Franklin. I suspect it's a proof. It still has some great luster to it. Difficult to photograph. This was in a 2x2 for over 30 years before I put it in an album.
