With a regular paper or news site, I would say "pretty common": Hey, the article is about gold, we need to have a stock photo of a gold coin, quick! ;) But here? That is a gold portal after all ...

My girlfriend's grandfather believed that his pile of these coins (pictured above) were gold...of course, he probably bought them from HSN or a TV ad where they do everything to stress the GOLD dollar and make it sound like it IS gold...so at least some of it is false advertising...

I don’t know, do you speak Italian? Are they saying the Sac is or is not gold?

Yes, I'm Italian. They just say that gold coins are a good investment, they don't mention any particular kind of coin. They probably picked a random photo on the net.
If someone really sell bronze coins as gold, he must be prosecuted for fraud.

Then again, keep in mind that here (sono nella zona euro anch'io) we have such catchy terms as well. Think of the "Nordic Gold" coins. :D So some poor editor will have seen the words "Golden Dollar" somewhere, and ... hehe.

I believe the only real gold Sacagawea dollars (mintage of 12 pieces) were flown into space and returned to earth and were placed in the national numismatic collection. Another one of our members may know more.
