That coin has issues. Looks fake to me too and I am not that good at identifying fakes yet.

No doubts in my mind, that's about as fake as it gets! probably the reason people should stick to purchasing graded coins

No. It's the reason people should know what they are buying before buying it.
It's the reason people learn the need to learn more.

It would be a terrible thing (for everyone but the grading agencies) if that was all the hobby consisted of, and would lead numismatics down the path of collecting baseball cards. That hobby is dead, save for a select few cards and/or eras that serve as its life support.

Slabs can and are faked as well, and can be mislabeled or give a grade that nobody seems to agree with. Hence the mantra, "Buy the coin, not the slab."

But the topic coin of this thread does look like crap. :)

Seller ended it because "There was an error in the listing."

I guess fraud COULD be considered "an error...!"

Ridiculous. There is little doubt that, at one time or another, everyone here has had something that turned out not to be what we thought or hoped it was, so there is absolutely no reason to assume that this person was, without one shred of evidence, trying to defraud anyone. If anything, the fact that they ended the listing, even if we do not know why, could show that the seller realized his mistake and chose to do the right thing on his own.

I agree. In searching his completed and current listings, I find no evidence of any fakes being sold or offered for sale. I think this one "just slipped through", from a seller who probably doesn't know the series very well.

or its because someone called him out on it... some of his ASE's look suspect too....

That's always a possibility. It's a tough call as to whether a seller is "seeding" his otherwise genuine items with a few fakes, hoping to slip one through for a tidy profit.

I would say to you that with the number of other sellers on eBay, it's better to assume a fraud than to not, particularly after he comes back to slackaction and says it's "the real deal, no fake to it." I went to look at his other feedback and couldn't find it but I would bet there is some in their questioning his description of what he's sold in the past.

He may have made an honest mistake, but he won't be going on my "favorite sellers list;" will he be on yours?

With what very little info we have, it is best not to assume anything in regards to this seller's intentions. As for the number of sellers on ebay, this has nothing to do with accusing someone of fraud.

As for the seller's response posted in this thread, is it really that hard to believe that this person may have thought it real? Think of how often do we see threads on this very board started by someone who thought their coin one thing, but it turns out to be another; it happens and with great frequency, especially when dealing with someone who just thinks they know what they're talking about. Ebay is filled with such people.

For the sake of clarity, it was shipping, not descriptions, that were questioned and was the so-called cause for his one negative (two neutrals, possibly left by the same buyer, were seemingly undeserved).

Let's switch this around and say that the seller, unknown to the OP, just happened to be a regular member here: do you think the same things would be said and assumed?

We can agree to disagree. The question becomes did he take it down because it was the right thing to do (in which case I owe him/her an apology), did he take it down because eBay told him to, or did he take it down because his scam got caught. I don't know the answer, but I can see it's in my best interest NOT to deal with him/her.

If it quacks like a duck....

The burden of proof has let many criminals off the hook... If this seller posts fakes on Ebay, he will be tried in the court of public opinion, on CoinTalk! :p

There is another saying that may interest you, and one that holds just as much water: "judge not, that ye be not judged". So, unless you've never made a mistake and wish to be held to a standard of absolute perfection, let he who is without sin case the first stone. ;)

I guess it's game over then, I can't argue with that platitude.

I'm just wondering why he never answered the question I asked , it was simple . I asked what the coin weighed . I already knew it was a fake but wanted to see if he'd answer , he didn't . That seller is now on my do not deal with list. Do I know his motives , no I don't . But he's not the type of person I want to deal with .
