Hey Rick, CONECA has a Master Doubled Die Obverse (MDO-001) listed. It says, "Light spread on IN GOD WE TRUST." Could it be master die doubling? There does appear to be some kind of hub doubling. TRUST and GOD look really distorted.

OK, Here's the deal. This is indeed a coin that was the result of Master Die Doubling. In fact many Ikes are doubled dies but they are not at all rare or scarce.

A master die is created early on in the process of the creation of dies used to make coins.

Firstly, A Master hub is used to make a master die. If during that process, the master die is impressed in such a way that the Master die ends up with multiple impressions , you have a situation where all the working hubs made from that master die (with multipled details) will have multipled details. The master die could be doubled, tripled, etc.

All the working dies that will be used to strike coins will also be doubled if the doubled working hub was used to create them.

That means that there will be many , many, dies that are doubled producing perhaps hundreds of thousands to millions of coins that are technically doubled dies.

The Eisenhower dollar series is loaded with these.

It's confusing but a Master hub is used to make just a few master dies. The master dies make working hubs, then working hubs are used to make working dies. If the master die is doubled, everything down the line is doubled.

I still have three safety boxes at the bank full of coins, at least my dad does, they use to be my grand-fathers, and my uncles coins

Thanks for the clarification foundinrolls. I know the process, but I don't know hardly anything about Ike's. I know the 1972 Lincoln MDO like the back of my hand, just not the Ike's.
