For toner lovers--this looks like a wild one--not mine!!

    Hey folks,

This one looks like a wild coin, and probably worth the bid if you like the toning. I am not in this one, as I have a bunch of toners of that date. However, this should go reasonably:
(definite crappy picture warnings, but one can see the tone clearly even with inadequate photos).

    LOVE the crazy, wild toning!

Now that you've posted it for all to see here, I doubt it will go "reasonably" anymore. :D

I would interpret that coin as having negative eye appeal.

I would agree with you. Firstly, because it's a Morgan Dollar. Secondly, because it's not attractively toned at all. ;)

Well that makes 3 of us that agree. But it is a chocolate and vanilla issue, for whatever that's worth.

On what planet? Do you know anything about toned coins, and what people who collect toners think of rainbow toning? Or is this just the typical board "Knee Jerk" remark?

Sure it would. No problem with Market Acceptability with that one. Lots of them look like that.

That was fairly rude. Why don't you go to my website, not to buy anything, but to read, and then post again. You may learn something.

I think your initial comment regarding negative eye appeal was rude, and your response here was even more rude. I doubt that there is anything that I could learn from you, as you have your definite prejudices against a certain type of toned coin. SO be it.

I can say, in an unbiased fashion, that although I love rainbow toning, I don't care for this coin. The toning is oddly patterned and scratched, and the coin itself is kind of rough for the grade. Maybe the pictures stink, but they don't do anything for me.

See, that is a positive, constructive criticism as opposed to the blanket condemnation. I understand how you feel, and respect an opinion put POLITELY like that. Saying a coin has "negative eye appeal" is a highly charged opinion, as opposed to saying that the toning was not to one's particular taste. Same goes with the feeling towards "blast white" coins--some love them, some hate them (as ostensibly dipped). However, making a negative blanket condemnation is about as openminded as saying "all Chocolate Ice Cream is awful."

I like the coin. I wouldn't break the bank for it, but it's a nice coin.

It sure looked to me like TomB was giving His opinion of the coins color. He didn't say you were "insert insult here" for liking it, he said he didn't like it.

MorganDude your starting to take everything personal again. stop ,deep breath, hold , release. repeat as needed

I don't care for the coin. There is not enough rainbow toning there to make up for the rest of the coin. I call that negative eye appeal as well.

Do you even know who TomB is?? Or are you aware of his massively respected opinion and reputation in the business? If anything in this thread is "knee-jerk" it is your ignorant reply. The difference between you and Tom Bush, PhD, the respected numismatist and numismatic photographer, is that he has credentials -- you don't. And, I'm not talking just about his PhD -- he has decades of experience in the highest echelons of the business, and you could learn a thing or two from him. Not to mention, he's not rude -- he's simply honest.

Now you are being rude. I don't care about anybody's pedigree if they can't simply follow the old adage--if you don't have anything nice to say, DON'T SAY IT. This isn't even my coin--posted it in case other members might be interested. As regards college degrees, I have four of them, myself, so that doesn't make one more suited to post on a subject than anybody else when it comes to opinion of a coin that is SUBJECTIVE. You have no idea what my collector's experience, and credentials are, so back off. End of story, and I wish this thread would just die out.
