Look at the dot Placing when looking at a Roll of wheats Before you spend too Much, The P mint mark the dot Is Next to the D and Not centered ..This should save you some Bucks..

Or if you're lucky make you some. The above is correct for the business strike P VDB and SVDB, but the Proof VDB has the same spacing as the SVDB

Good info but an easier way is to just not buy wheat rolls on ebay with a VDB on the end of a roll. The odds of it being an S are astronimical to impossible.

well we will see if it works out I bought a roll on ebay this past week that the dot should be in the right spot, we will see if I am right, If not I am out a few hundred. wish me luck, when I get it in the mail I am going to make a youtube video on it and Give the roll to a child that comes over all the time He lost his father a few years ago and my husband has been there teaching him coins, helping him in school, Baseball, and providing things the kid needs. The Kids mother is worthless and spends all her money on lotto Tickets, she did not even pay the gas bill so the 9 year old could take a shower. I have reached out, and looking in to bringing the boy to live here with us.He comes over for weeks at a time because his mothers not around. He loves coins. we have put a large collection together for him. Nice right..But he's not able to take the coins to his home or his mom will spend them or sell them just like she did his xbox we bought him.

sorry to tell you but you just fell for one of the oldest rip off's on ebay . these corrupt sellers baits the end of the roll with a coin that will make a new collector think other good coins will be in the roll and even go so far as to say they are unscearched. I can't figure out how they can sleep at night after robbing so many good folks. I applaud you for trying to help the needy child. I know some cases like you mentioned and in this case a bunch of coins will never help this child. about the best thing to do is buy clothes for him and feed him.
your ebay coin roll will be worth about the face value of the coins in it. corrupt sellers would never put anything good in one of the rolls.when they get a decent coin they ask a million times what it is worth for it. go take a look at the sellers other item's and I bet he has his good ones out seperate for sale.

well I understand that a know that more than likely it was a waste Money But I had to try it One time, Just like buying a lotto ticket, If you would like Here Is the listing I won, I only bought it because the spacing was different and looks like it would be a good candidate to be the 1909 s vdb 151156155103 ebay

I also looked at his sells He has 100% feed back and has sold coin rolls like this before, I will inspect the ends when it gets here to see if they changed out the coins or sent a different roll. we should soon find out.

It does appear that the dots are in different places on the two end coins. Good luck.

Thanks Jay, So I thought It would be worth a try, Think about when you go out to dinner you drop 75$ This just costed me 75$ for a chance to get a better coin than I had. By looking at the coins Is the only reason I bid on the Item. the one coin seams to appear to be a 1909 s Vdb. If this proves correct then I will use this method Agin, Wouldn't you? we will be posting the opening of this roll on you tube. for all to see. Grand or bust..

Can't comment on the placement of the dots, but to me it looks like a typical "seeded" ebay roll...I highly doubt the roll is original. Either way, good luck and let us know the results.

    silentnviolent accumulator--selling--make an offer I can't refuse

It appears that the vast majority of his sold items consist of 'rolls of wheats with 09 vdb at the ends'

Pretty crappy of eBay to no longer allow people to view his completed transactions as a buyer. They don't like folks to see that a person buys an item properly labeled (AT, in a details slab, damaged, etc.) and is relisting it as NT, problem free, BU, etc.

    Crooks enabling crooks.

Good luck with the roll, OP. It will thrill the Young Numismatist no matter what's in it, and that's what counts. Next time though, for the money, you could get much more (quantity) and the kid will be happy and have more time occupied with the search. :)

Wow ! I went and looked at what this ebay seller has been selling. He sure is making a awesome living off the new collectors that don't understand anything about coins. one buyer had left him a neutral feedback and said 261.00 the end coins were ok and rest mostly junk , then this brazen seller's reply was GAMBLER THAT DIDNT I looked on farther and another buyer had paid over 300.00 for a roll of this trash. this sellers feedback is filled with the sale of these loaded rolls. some even had a dime on one end and indian cent on other end . anyone can do this and sale a 5.00 roll of coins for hundreds if they want to be a thief. I'll just stay poor and not worry about having lots of money before doing this.

I noticed this also. Why did he get so many happy buyers? Not one of them said, "I got it! 1909-S VDB! Wooooooooo!" Are they just addicted gamblers and are happy with the thrill of the hunt? I love the thrill of the hunt, but not for over $200!

I think you got it right , a lot of folks are addicted to gambling. another thing is that some buyers feel embarrased at being taken so bad and don't say anything. I hope banks hard wood gives this seller a negative and tells about the junk if that is how she get's treated. sellers can no longer retaliate with a negative so let's keep them in line.

Update, received Penny roll today , Loose roll, re-rolled end, 2 fine 1909 indians, 3 1909-P vdb, 2 1909 p ,1 1931s smashed mint mark, 1 1915d fine20_, and some others in the 30's , I was not going to open the roll till Knowa was here to make a video, But when I seen It was loose, and re-rolled I new he would see that too.. and say I rolled the pennies. I put a call out and having some rolls sent here,so by the weekend he'll have rolls which aren't loose and harder for him to open. So the end of the store, staged roll's for what you spend, what a damm shame.

So sorry. Was it the correct roll? Were the 2 ends P VDB's?

You are right about the location for the S (and it is the same for all proofs). However, not all P mints are to the left. For instance, http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=131340&lotNo=22580. So if it is to the left, it is P, but if it is centered, it could be anything.

Well One of the coins on the end did not match 100% to my satisfaction with the coin in the picture on ebay, But that could be because of the light, the coin which looked to be a match to the 1909 s vdb was not seen it the roll. But the paper roll was the same roll. You would think I would learn one day..But at least they put a few key dates in the roll. that I don't need,

I have never seen a 1909 proof, so i can't say on that, But what I can say Is on all 1909 p that I have seen the dot is to the left, and all the 1909 s vdb the dot is in the center . and all my friends say there 1909s vdb are in the center also. so I am batting 100%, will I buy another cent roll ,(Yes) If the VDB is clear and I can Judge the dot to be centered .

  21. rlm's cents

    rlm's cents Numismatist

Go look. There are lots of them. I know because I had one P that was centered and thought it was a proof. When I looked at Heritage, I found MANY, MANY more just like it. Like I said before, you are correct about the S VDB.
