Playing with the camera today and shot this 13-d type 1 to death trying to pick up the beautiful color & luster this one displays. PCGS MS-66 in a secure holder with some pretty nice pastel color mainly on the obverse and that was enough for me to make the purchase. Well, not really. This one also has a full strike, GREAT luster and some extra added machine doubling which adds a bit, for me at least. The rims are wide & square and the planchet surfaces are clean and free of distracting blemishes. The price was right. Thanks for looking and happy hunting.....DEX

A real beauty , I have one with some nice color in PCGS 66 too , but nowhere as nice as yours . Yours is one of the best looking '13 type 1s I've seen .

Beautiful coin and great pictures! How'd you end up shooting it, 2 light setup?

Yes to bring out the color I'll most of the time use 2 lights. Sometimes if it's a "dark" toned coin I'll use 3. Lustrous coins I'll most always use 2 lights to not flood the color and bring out the luster. Thanks...DEX

Now that almost makes me renounce my belief that the Buffalo was not the 4th ugliest coin ever produced. Almost. :p

Wowsa. That's a hell of a coin Dexter.

This is a VERY well struck Buff!! The details are full and all the lettering is well formed. Great Buff!!

Well I'm not an error guy, but I wouldn't know what else to call it. It's starts from just below the chin and runs to about the B in LIBERTY. There is raised metal all along this area that intrudes into the fields unevenly all along this narrow strip. The only way that can happen that I know of is if the edge of the die breaks away and allows that metal to be raised. The tops of the Y and the T are gone, the tops of the R and E less so. That's what they call a cud, isn't it ?

edit - compare the area I circled to the rest of the coin just inside the rim.

I think what your seeing is where the rim gets a tad soft above "Liberty" they look as if they are blended together....But not a cud.

Edited to say I'm glad your NOT an error guy!!

Like I said, I don't know what else to call it. But when raised metal cuts into the fields and cuts of the top of the letters, and it obviously does (just look at the coin rzage posted), to me that's a cud.

Looks like a cud to me , especially below the lettering . I still love the coin though .
