I really strongly believe this coin is a fake. It doesn't seem to have a gold luster to it. The back design looks wrong due to research I've attempted on this coin. There is differences in the crown from what I've seen in photos. I'm hoping that it might just be that it was a bad dye they used but I find that unlikely. Every coin I have looked at doesn't look exactly like the one i have in design.

I believe its a Escudos coin but then why on the back does it say 8 S and not E?

I'm not an expert and would like opinions. I'm taking the coin to a jeweler today to see if she can tell me if it actually has gold encase the gold has just tarnished or if its some base metal. It kind of looks goldish in places but I'm not holding out much hope.

If it's a fake I didn't get harmed too badly I paid a dollar for it, and it's still a very neat looking coin.

Are you really asking if the $1000+ coin you bought for $1 is a fake?

The S is correct for the 8 Escudos. A better photo with more light on it would go a long way in helping to identify the coin. The Obverse does not look correct from what I can see.

Yes i am actually because the reverse looks wrong from everything i've seen. I'm not one for just assuming that I got a reallllly good deal when I have doubts.

Tried to take a better photo of it too.

I'm afraid you misunderstood me. The simple fact that you paid $1 for a coin hypothetically worth more than $1000 is enough evidence to prove it's a fake, even without the pictures.

Ah sarcasm right, and I just misunderstood. The thing is I knew that I was taking a chance thats why I'm not upset. Things happen it was a dollar oh well. I got two actual silver coins out of the deal though and yes there real I quadruple checked.

I would post them as well sir. Yes, it can happen you get a deal amongst fakes, but USUALLY where there are fakes, there are MORE fakes. I cannot count how many times people have bought a group of fakes, but thinks one of them is real. USUALLY, being bought with other fakes is pretty damning evidence.

Therefor, since you cannot spot this coin as a fake in half a second, I am concerned your other "real" coins may or may not be real. So, in your best interest, I think you would be wise to post good pics and weights of those coins here as well.

I believe i said that and everyone else in the general vicinity.

Also the necklace one is obviously fake but I included it for fun. I don't have a scale or i'd weigh them.
