I leave feedback as a frequent buyer after the item is safely received and in my hands. I rarely leave negative or neutral feedback. I have never received an item that was far off from the pictures unless it was a shabby picture that I willingly took a gamble on in the first place and thus leave positive feedback as the item was received. I typically wait until the item arrives as I am of the mindset that if I leave positive feedback as soon as I pay for the item, then that absolves the seller of any positive recourse in the event of a scam or sending out a wrong item because I okayed it already and the seller can point back to that and say 'see he had a great experience, look at the feedback he left for me'. My step two in an incident if it's the wrong item mailed or scammish in nature is to contact the seller and allow them the opportunity to rectify the situation and appropriate feedback will be left. If it was a scam depending on the severity I would leave a neg or neutral. In the situation of an honest mistake, I would leave a positive if the seller fixed any unintentional wrong doing. I could care less if a seller leaves me feedback one way or the other, I appreciate all positive feedback and feel entitled to it if I've paid in a timely manner and communicated with the seller, but I don't whine about it if I don't receive any. It's just numbers on a screen to me and as we've all seen the feedback system can be scammed just like many other online utensils.
Having a lot of good and recent feedback helps sellers sell coins. I know to ignore leaving feedback doesn't "hurt" a seller, but it also doesn't let them know you are happy with the deal, and it doesn't let other buyers know that this seller is good to deal with. So for me, I try to leave immediate feedback if I am happy, mostly on the same day coin arrives. Most of us who buy on eBay are lurking there daily, so to not leave feedback it almost harder since eBay is constantly reminding you. Seems to me some buyers go out of their way to not leave feedback even if they are happy. Not saying that's you, but I just don't understand that mindset.
Feedback is often annoying. You've got sellers who hold off on leaving feedback until the buyer leaves it. And you've got the sellers who watch the USPS tracking like a hawk and get after you for feedback before you even get a chance to open the item.
Strange, I buy a ton on eBay with two different accounts, and not just coins. I sometimes have very nice notes from sellers asking for feedback, or emails reminding me to leave feedback and they will do the same for me. I never thought of these as annoying or badgering, and I appreciate when sellers leave me feedback, so I kind of make a point to leave feedback on everything I buy, one way or the other. I don't see how 10 seconds per item can be that annoying, but I guess it takes a whole bunch of different people to make a world.
I disagree...the seller should leave feedback once the item has been paid for, not the buyer. Because...at that time the buyer has completed their duty to the seller. The buyer should leave feedback upon receiving the item as described. FWIW, I always leave feedback. I think it's the right thing to do. If the item arrives in a normal amount of time and is as described...then they get a positive. If something is wrong, they get an email.
Yeah I can see your point. I rarely ever look at a sellers feedback so most of the time I don't even think to leave any. I will leave feedback, but it's usually later on when I see eBay telling me I need to leave feedback for 8 items.
Feedback is an integral part of the eBay system. I'm sure that most of the people that don't leave feedback aren't being intentionally rude, but it's rude nonetheless. Does paying for a service excuse anyone from common courtesy and proper manners? I have a handful of buyers that haven't left me feedback. If they're trying to send me a message, why not SEND ME A DAMN MESSAGE? I'm willing to take returns even after the 14-day period, and pay for the return postage. I don't want anyone buying a coin from me and being unhappy about it. But I need to know. The situation is worse with international buyers, where I don't have delivery confirmation. I have no idea what's going on with my German buyers at the moment. Everybody is mum. Leave the friggin feedback people.
Due to eBay's signature requirement on purchases over $250, I wait until the buyer has signed for the package to leave positive feedback. My reasoning is, if they refuse to accept the package, they haven't completed their part of the transaction. Outside of that, I leave positive feedback for any buyer who pays within 48 hours.
I do lots of buying and selling on eBay. When buying, I never expect a seller to leave feedback first. Sometimes they do, and sometimes not. While it's true that there are sellers who won't leave feedback until after receiving it first, there are others (myself included), who tend to leave feedback for lots of buyers all at one time. I don't think of myself as holding a buyer hostage to forthcoming feedback. Delaying feedback (better known as procrastination) is also a means of getting things done efficiently when you're a small operation, and have lots of different tasks to do . . . receiving packages, bookkeeping, photography, listing coins online, checking want lists, preparing shipments . . . leaving feedback. You get the idea. If one goes through every step of the process for each coin in serial fashion, instead of doing the same task for many coins at the same time, it would take a lot longer. As important as I feel it is to leave feedback, I tend to let it pile up a bit before doing a fair number of them together. Just the other day, I realized I had forgotten to leave feedback for a purchase of a coin I bought over a month before, and am elated to own.
And then the buyer should leave feedback as soon as the seller ships because he has completed his part. OK maybe wait until it arrives, then leave the feedback and then open the package. After all once it arrives the seller has obviously completed his side of the transaction right? Apparently the two parties each being satisfied with the transaction isn't important. Remember sellers CAN'T leave negative feedback, but they do sometimes get extorted for partial refunds etc with the threat of the buyer leaving THEM negative feedback It doesn't hurt their ratings, but it doesn't help them either. And if they have been a good seller why not help them?
The process is actually not complete for the buyer until that buyer receives the item. It also wouldn't be complete for the seller until the item arrives at its destination which is a good thing anyways considering a tracking number is a plus for both parties. Killing two birds with one stone.
The buyer is made whole/satisfied/transaction completed regards his expectations of seller when the item arrives and he is happy with it. That is when he should leave feedback (assuming there are no other issues). Once the seller receives good feedback he attains satisfaction and considers the transaction completed regards his expectations of the buyer, and now it is his turn to leave feedback.
Indeed but also I think after the 14 period for returnable items that if the buyer never returned or informed the seller of the return that the seller should give positive feedback. Or after whenever the time frame is on return rules from that seller.
That wouldn't prevent S getting a neg. Or a not as described. Not sure if B is open to exposure after S gives PF - but I will guess not.
I don't know about the majority of buyers, but when I don't leave feedback there is a "message". After years of leaving seller feedback without reciprocity, it became my policy to not leave feedback until feedback was left by seller. Having been an eBay "Preferred Power Seller" for many years, I fully appreciate the financial effects of a diminished 100% rating, and thus NEVER leave negative feedback. I purchase many slabbed items of the same design, often multiples of the same grade/date are purchased in a given week. The majority of my sellers do not include "packing slips", just the coin which can't easily be associated with a specific auction. Regardless of other factors, a packing slip garners 5 star feedback, with a message commending their unusual consideration. If I pay an excessive S/H fee. and a slabbed coin (all that I purchase on eBay) comes loose in a large envelope, NO FEEDBACK!! I paid a $15 S/H fee for a PCGS slabbed "mint state" $20 Gold Double Eagle that arrived loose in a large postal "mailer" with $3.14 postage label, with the end torn open by the loose coin almost enough for the coin to be expelled. The seller received a personal WHAT WERE YOU THINKING/NOT? message, but NO FEEDBACK!! I always post a note that the shipment was received, which I know to be superfluous as eBay notes in "my eBay".when the item is received. The seller should get a message!! I believe automatic positive feedback would transmit the wrong message, and I personally would probably need to post either neutral or negative feedback on a large perecentage of my items received. JMHO, Rich
I personally leave feedback after I print the shipping label. I don't hold it hostage and in the last 50 items I sold I got feedback for maybe 35. It sucks yes, but not much you can do as a seller.
I leave buyers feedback as soon as they pay. I leave feedback 100% of the time when I am the buyer or the seller, and probably only get left feedback ~60% of the time.
I leave feedback after buyers do but if they dont then I wait for the 14 day return period then leave it. Im not worried about getting feedback as long as they are happy and keep coming back.
