I was at a local coin shop today looking through state quarters. He sells BU state quarters that he puts in small plastic packs. He has them separated into small bins by state. While I was going through them , I found what I believe is a centered broadstrike. I immediately noticed it so I set it aside and ended up paying $1 for it. I knew it was some type of error but did not know if it was worth much. I figured for $1 I wouldn't lose out on much. I know the pictures aren't very good, I made them with my phone in a hurry, but could anyone with more experience give me their thoughts on the coin? Thanks!!!
I believe what you have here is not a broadstrike but a coin that was struck out of the collar and i base my opinion on what appears to be a railroad rim in pics 2 and 3. I have been wrong in the past and i'm certainly no expert someone will surely chime in and give you the answer you're looking for hope it helps....
Thanks. In a couple of very small spots there is just a little reeding, but it doesn't go around the entire quarter.
Partial collar broad strike, sometimes called a railroad rim. Some of the reeding is there. Nice catch!
Here is a video of the rim. It was easier to capture what it looks like using a video. Thanks Rick. Would an error like this have much value?
A broadstrike IS a cion struck out of the collar. The coin in question is a tilted partial collar strike.
This is a partial collar but not worth much, hope this helps http://www.minterrornews.com/priceguidepartialcollar.html
