Depends on what you intend to use it for. I bought one but found its field of view was too small to get something the size of an ASE in full. For physically smaller coins it will probably be fine and will definitely let you show a lot more detail at a higher resolution than you can with a regular camera.
what i use mine for mostly is viewing coins im roll searching on my computer screen, saves my eyes an goes faster.
I got one of those off ebay made for attaching to a smartphone camera. $7 from Hong Kong, totally worth it at that price. Great for capturing minute details, but not an entire coin.
$7??? Don't they just use the ones they sell for 99-cents (60x magnification) and somehow attach a clip to it?
Here is my response and photos from my scope. http://www.cointalk.com/threads/which-usb-microscope.230049/#post-1735555
They do have 45x and 60x versions, the one I got is 100x. They also have 220x ones, but those are like $40.
The post below (from the linked thread) is excellent. I realize that many use inexpensive USB "microscopes", but there are better options, even for those on a tight budget. However, if the OP's plan is to use it primarily for searching, he should reconsider and would be much better off buying a quality loupe and doing it the old fashioned way. In the long run, his eyes will thank him for it.
