30 years of progress Ford Motor Co. 1903 t0 1933, Probably a deal as the 2x2 was label 50 years 1933-1953 A coin club series medallion, seemed an odd choice for a coin club but what do I know! And the gem in the group purchase! more to come
Thanks, since I posted I have found out that the Ford one is also from the century of progress too. And that they are called "SO-Called Dollars" So I know collect them I was given a link to a site that has them listed and also sells the 2nd edition of the H&K So-Called Dollars book which I ordered to night. I think that I got a double bonus.http://www.so-calleddollars.com/Events/Century_of_Progress.html
found 1 that looks like yours on Ebay. Ebay item#360461753907 he sells them for $6.50. calls them guardian angel coin.
Yes they are called angle coins, some are plated some are brass alloy. They are the same as a good luck tokens, only more for the spiritually inclined. Around here they appear to be common and go for a dollar or two. Here's one on mine, with a dollar coin next two it, seem the bucket or the net is acting up this morning as the photo is now side ways. I was told by one dealer that they were or are given out by Religious types to people in the hospital. Don't know how true but it does make a good tag line for them!
I think you are right about them given away by religous groups to inspire guardian angels being amoung us.
Here's a couple the daughter and sonnlaw sent back with the wife yesterday, from babysitting. An added bonus was I didn't have either one! A couple more from the latest trip to the LCS Damaged but still a nice observe for the drawing Interesting one from a cable TV channel
Not being a bullion stacker, I only buy rounds or art bars that I find interesting. This was in his silver and since it was near spot yesterday after noon and I remember seeing these adverted on the tube @ high premiums when they were being humped. I thought why not! Not being one that thinks toning is any thing other than an ad mans word for oxidation on metal. It did strike me that the smokey toning around the circumference of both faces and then the smoke plume on the reverse added a visual reminder of the event. That it might add an ounce to the ASE's No paper work, but it still is an troy ounce of silver. And for when you don't want to waste a silver bullet! 1oz .999 Cu
Here is the web site and it is 34mm http://www.so-calleddollars.com/Events/Century_of_Progress.html there are a number of restrikes. This medal was restruck in 1973. The later strikes have proof-like surfaces and a microscopic 1973 added to the reverse following the word Progress.
