    Hello all,

I am about to put my 1934 Canadian half for sale. Now I know it is a scarce key with a mintage of 39,539 so I really need some pro help to help me GRADE/VALUE....PLEASE!!
I was looking into Canadian grading for this coin in particular. It goes XF $420 to AU $700. Now according to the grading req. an ms 60 1934 half can have unsightly toning, some marks and spots just no circ. wear....Im guessing this is a high AU. It has some nice luster...I cant see any wear and it has some dark/rainbow toning...I think it has some nice eye appeal..I really don't want to lose money on this....THX GUYS!!! 001.JPG 002.JPG 003.JPG 004.JPG

It appears to be an AU. If I had to venture a guess of what PCGS or NGC might grade this, I think it would be in the 53-55 area. ICCS will probably grade a point of two lower, because they're the ultra strict graders for Canadian material. Nice coin, I don't think you will have an issue moving it.

What does everyone else think - is this something worth slabbing before the sale?

Also, I might consider starting this as a 10-day auction, ending on a Sat/Sun during "business hours," and maybe starting the bidding at 15% over the minimum you'd be willing to accept - that way the coin CAN go higher...but it can't get any lower and if it doesn't sell, then you have only lost grading fees. Or maybe putting in a reserve minimum at that point...

Just thoughts. Beautiful, beautiful coin! Gotta be honest - these are some of my favorite designs, especially with lots of detail. Make sure you share the listing link so we can follow along!

I think it's a beautiful coin with nice original color and would agree with the above grade of around 53 for PCGS or NGC . Though I might go a little lower to AU-50 especially at ICCS.

gorgeous coin. I would get it slabbed by PCGS or NGC to not only to get it graded but to get it preserved. a coin that great deserves better than a 2X2 cardboard holder.

    Beauty 50 cent Frank.
I'd put it at AU50 but most of the graded coins I see up close are ICCS.
As to value, Heritage shows a PCGS graded AU55 sold for $528.75 in Jan.

Cdncoin has a PCGS AU50 for sale at $569 & JandM (Vancouver) shows a catalogue value of $600 for an AU50, though I don't think it mentions if TPG or not.

Rule #1: Take the coin OUT of he holder before taking pictures.

    Rule #2: See Rule #1.

    Pictures in holders are useless.

Terrific coin! I'd say around EF-45 by ICCS standards.

Nice coin, fully struck, with original toning. The circulation wear is evident, on the ribbon of the shoulder, middle of the crown, moustache and beard on the obverse and on the larger leaves on the reverse. The fields also show signs of circulation marks. EF-45 to AU-50, from what I see in the photos. Certainly a coin I would be interested in...

Is it crazy to think I can ask for $600 U.S. for this coin?? I don't really know much about the Canadian coin market...I do know that this is AN INCREDIBLE COIN...and..that not too many of the 1934 Canadian coins still have luster and that are too cheap....

Thank a lot guys!!! I really appreciate all the info. I also have a 1934 Canadian dime and 1934 Canadian 25 cent in similar condition as this half that I am going to photo and post...OUT OF the 2 X 2..LOL...I recently bought a $40 lot of coins at a yard sale in Florida. There were about 20 retro Whitman folders...all this Canadian stuff was in there and A LOT of great American coins....score of a lifetime!!!

Uncertified, yes, crazy. Put it in a PCGS holder and if it grades AU-50, then you might get somewhere between US$500 and US$550...
