My first bottlecap, yay! Looks great in hand. Didn't realize that it's had a lot of work done (especially the obverse) until I took these pictures. It's also from the Goldberg lot. No info on the flip but I think this attribution is correct. Please correct me if it is wrong. SELEUKID KINGDOM OF SYRIA, Demetrios I Soter 160-152 BC AE26 serrate, Antioch mint Obv: laureate head of Apollo right, bow and quiver over left shoulder Rev: BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΔHMHTΡIOΥ, tripod Ref: Houghton 169/SNG Spaer 1291
Definitely a nice coin. How much the smoothing bothered me would depend on how much I paid, I suppose. We've had this conversation a number of times over, and it always seems to boil down to the bottom line.
Super coin!! ... wow, Goldberg is treatin' you very well => I have an example (I'll post it later) ... man, work is definitely getting in the way of my coin life!!
Same here, but I'm managing to sneak some peeks and posts here and there. Looking forward to the weekend and some quality time with the the camera, Wildwinds, and CNG's Research section. Still trying to find some of those little button batteries (LR44)-- need three for my scale and one for the digital caliper. Struck out in three places so far. If I'd just ordered the online I they might have been here by now. (sigh)
TIF ... I can't seem to find my tripod coin ... but I did stumble across my Demetrios I Serratus (same dude as your coin) Demetrios I Serratus AE17 162 - 150 BC Diameter: 16.5mm Weight: 4.41 grams Obverse: Horse Reverse: Elephant Reference: SNG Spaer 1299 Hi
Tif you are building a fantastic collection. This coin is a beauty. That must be some lot you bought. Congrats.
