As listeners of The Coin Show podcast know... I do a segment called "The Coolest Thing". This is where I highlight the neat and unusual coins that come into my coin shop.

I figured I'd start a thread here about the same kind of thing.

This is this weeks coolest thing. Sealed Cheerios dollar in original packaging.

    I'll post another next week.

Ooh, a Cheerios Sacagawea dollar. Does it match the Cheerios variety?

From what I've read on them, because it's possible to find a 'Cheerios variety' in the wild, the packaging makes viewing the reverse impossible.

It does show the obverse die markers.

Did the person who owned it know about the variety?

Funny enough she did. She did her homework. Funny story tho... she called another local shop and told them about the coin... They told her "The cent is worth a cent and the dollar is worth a dollar" REALLY?????

Congratulations - that's something I've been trying to track down for a bit. Lucky enough to find the package with just the cent...and you gotta love the other shop's reply. You should let me know where they are so I can go cherrypick them.

    ;)

I remember the frenzy when those first came out. All I got were pennies in my cereal. What are those going for these days?

This piece is going to be going to PCGS. These are bringing $4,000-$5,500 these days depending on grade.

I wonder if you could have sent it to NGC with a letter requesting that it be graded "in pack." ;) Nice find and congrats to your customer. :) Other shop owner is a dolt...

I probably would have offered $2500-$3000 on the spot, personally. I have NEVER seen one with the penny AND dollar in the pack in person.

Wow, I just can't imagine paying that much for any of the base metal dollars.

Unfortunately NGC no longer does multi-coin slabs.

Why not, they pay more than that for copper cents (SVDB, 14-D), five million for a base metal 1913 V nickel, how much for a coppernickel 1973-S Unc dollar? (two known)
