I bought it. Roman Republic Error L. Scipio Asiagenus AR Serrate Denarius 106 B.C. 3.68 gms, 18 mm Obv: Head of Jupiter facing left with the letter A below chin. Rev: Mirror brockage of obverse. Grade: aEF showing only slight wear on the obverse devices. Perfectly centered & almost mint (as struck) incuse brockage on reverse. Other: Rome mint error coin where the reverse normally depicts Jupiter driving a galloping quadriga. From Eye Appealing Coins October 2013.
Sweet ... I like it (congrats) Not everybody seems to be on-board with the coolness of ancient error coins, but I myself am a huge fan!!
It really is beautiful, especially for a brockage. Nicely centered, deep impression. I like the brockage portrait more than the obverse!
I will one up you and trade him a Fel Temp AE4!!! This coin is just awesome. It is such a well detailed brockage as well.
Sweet coin Collect89. What I particularly like about brockages is how they teach us how coins were minted. Silver must "stick" to the dies much worst than copper. Silver seems to be the most common metal by far for these. I say this, though, and the only major brockage I own is a Tiberius copper. I didn't "buy" it, though, it was in a large group lot.
Thanks for all the kind coin-complements. BTW, the coin was purchased from a great coin dealer but he is far from being an ancient coin expert. While at the Westchester coin show this last weekend, I had the coin carefully examined by two guys that really know their stuff. They both believe the coin is genuine based upon their in-hand inspection, weight, etc.
