Pcgs has their 1957 MS 67 Penny BV for a Sweet $8,500.00. Tonight below is a link on one of 2 NGC 1957 MS 67 Cents.

So, is it the kool Aid some drink so heavy in this market believes this is an true grade for this coin.

Or is NGC still one grade below PCGS in Copper. $8,500 or $400. Coin value 101

Here's the link. Offer you opinions. G

Scroll down to the pops, and realize that standards, not koolaid, are at play here. Regardless of what PCGS guide quotes, there is good reason a PCGS67 would sell higher than an NGC67, so the title is rather misleading.

No pun intended but the prices in either grade seem like a pretty penny for an otherwise common coin. When I think about all the things I could spend $8500 on, or $400 for that matter, a 1957 wheat penny isn't one of them. How many original 1957 mint sewn bags could I buy for $8500?

Misleading to Who? Is PCGS really all by itself that puts this crap out there.
Or, should we look at the coin grading at all TPG's as an whole when determining fair market value. That's all I am saying. I think?

I have many coins in all 4 top TPG's. I have never seen such a wide margin. I wonder how much PCGS coin value guide if they only had 1 in their pop. I did read somewhere years ago that PCGS and NGC were miles apart on Copper coins grading and their value. Maybe this is what we see here. Thanks for all comments.

Let's roll the dice and maybe with all these new loosen rules lately even at the PCGS Imperial palaces, we might see an Lincoln cent 1957 MS 68er around the bend.

Well, I'm not positive but I think PCGS has been known to be stricter on Copper -- a lot of coins crossed from NGC to PCGS get dropped down a point or two. Not that it always happens as such (there's been a few upgrades as well, ironically enough), but the pop reports (as BooksB4Coins said) suggest otherwise. So the general perception behind the wide disparity in retail price is that coins in PCGS plastic went through more stringent standards than those in NGC plastic did. At least, that's the idea is :p

    NGC MS67 RB (9): $138
    NGC MS67 RD (130): $1380
    NGC MS66 RD (1347): $42.50

    PCGS MS67 RB: No listing
    PCGS MS67 RD (7): $8500
    PCGS MS66 RD (549): $75

PCGS CoinFacts auction history for MS67 RD:

    PCGS:
    03/12 EB$7,756
    04/09 HA$6,038
    12/08 HA$5,750
    08/07 BM$12,075
    01/06 HA$7,475

    NGC:
    08/13 TT$734
    08/13 TT$470
    07/13 HA$282
    07/13 TT$470
    07/13 TT$400

I agree that the title of the thread is extremely misleading. The "book value" of an NGC MS67 RD is not $8500. Yes, NGC's claim of $1380 seems very far outside of what the markets seem to dictate (especially with the Heritage $282 July 2013 thrown in there), but PCGS's $8500 doesn't seem exceedingly (maybe 15-25% overvalued?) off, as your thread title would lead one to believe.

This was NOT an $8500 book value coin going unsold for $400.

PCGS MS67RD has seven examples in the population. NGC MS67RD has nearly 20 times that. Yes, it's possible that those 130 coins would grade out as PCGS MS67RD, but the fact that the owners don't have the coins crossed for the $6000 being left on the table leads me to believe otherwise.

PCGS seems to have a supply-driven price in this case.

Sorry for the confusion. This new site locks you out of editing quicker than before.
I wanted to make the point that the 57 Wheat coin in 67 grade was "RED".

I even could of offered it in my other reply, but not thinking well these days.
Have much to say. If anyone would like to know a little more about me, drop me a pm. I will offer why I make so many mistakes in my threads. G

It's good though we have collectors like the two guys so far to bring my mistake to an discussion :)
