My local coin guy is checking with another dealer, whom has all three of 1943 P, D, S Lincoln Wheat Cents in MS67, to see how much they will set me back. Now, I will most likely go for it regardless, as those are the next three items on my 'wants list', but how much are we talking? He said he would have the price for me on Monday, and probably the coins as well, but I am curious as to what I need to be expecting. I am thinking between $50-$80... but I could be wrong. How much is a reasonable price for these three 'slabbed' coins? Thanks in advance for the responses.
From looking at heritage auctions results I would not be surprised if they all ran more than a $100. On ebay they run from 125 to 299 each. Plus a few of them on ebay either have spots or just bad photographs. Honestly since I do not collect these I do not know what is reasonable. So wait for more responses.
I usually see the same level of lincolns I have sent for grading, going about 1 number lower by PCGS as by NGC, so I would not pay the same price for the NGC grade. In hand inspection might change my mind, but not just for the slab.
i would agree if the guy is generous i would say around 90 but more likely the 100-130 per coin range
NGC from a dealer you have got to be looking at $75 each and it could easily be $100. PCGS probably starts at $100 each and $150 would not shock me
I plan on examining them before I make the purchase. Hopefully they are spot-free. Even if they are MS67, spots take away from them in my opinion. Thank you, that was along the lines of what I am looking for, and even though that was 8yrs ago and I am sure the price has gone up, that seems reasonable to me. Hopefully they are PCGS. I told him I preferred PCGS over NGC but would take what he has as long as all three are graded by the same TPG. I appreciate all responses, and on Monday I will update (in this thread) everybody and let them know what my decision was. Hopefully, I may have a few pics to post, as well.
Paid $175 for 67 NGC set in the older holder a few years back. Think it was 3 or 4 years ago. He wanted little over $200
UPDATE: They should be in Friday. NGC MS67. $209 for the set. I forget exactly how it was broken up. The 1943-S was $75, and then the other two were in the mid-60s, I forget which price for which mint mark, though. Nevertheless, it works for me. Will post pics when I have them in hand.
Thanks for the update, I was curious. Checked out an Ebay sale for a set as you described and I purchased a few years back and it closed at a $219 and change. Sounds like a fair price if it is a nice set. Good luck.
He has them, but I work out of town a lot and have not made it back to town in time to drop into the shop and pick them up. Sorry this has turned into a long drawn out thing...
I would only go with PCGS myself. NGC gets questionable at the 67 level but PCGS is pretty consistent. Remember - buy the coins and not the holders.
Here we go: What are everyone's thoughts/opinions? $209.00 for the 3. I have NOT purchased yet but they are being held in case I want to. All opinions are welcome.
