Huh thats strange. Maybe a deal has been reached..? I want to move on to what is now my New Favorite note in my collection. It is an Obsolete note from Indian Territory, Issued by the Choctaw Nation! It may not look like much to some but this is an EPIC step for my collection!!! This example grades very high for this series of notes and it has not been reissued as others have. It is debatable about which is rarer but I am ecstatic about haveing this in my collection!
Low Country Coins offer %10 off if you buy from them directly, plus I had A %5 off coupon from them. At $47 for a crappy 1934B $10 silver certificate what ever, ebay is slow to remove sold items. I have a Barn Find Sale every year where I list circulated notes around income tax time at bargain prices, I don't make alot on these auctions but for a collector on a budget I offer a good value.
Picked up the above note from a dealer in Stuttgart Germany. It was reasonably priced and had free shipping. Perhaps the Costa Rica Notes are not as popular there as they are here. The dealer had given it a grade of Uncirculated PPQ66 and a date of January 1, 1911, Series A.
Well chaps, I arrive with news. Turns out I am suffering from chronic Type I Laziness and it is, while not fatal, going to be with me the rest of my life. The most persistent symptom now is the manifestation of two stacks of unscanned notes that are 3 inches tall I $#!+ you not. Well, I went into remission for a few minutes and managed to get a few notes scanned. Not sure what the deal is, but I admit - while I like the new forum, the changeover makes it a little less approachable somehow - same thing happened at AVSForum, they changed, and I just haven't really gone back. Of course, I hated the new forum software over there... So let's get this kicked off with a bang. To my detriment, I have started collecting obsoletes (madness, it is pure MADNESS) among my other currency pursuits, and I have been picking up alot of the nicer, more common notes as well as some rarer ones. This note has those things I love in an obsolete - delicate engraving, big giant eagle, colored overprint, Shazam! Had to get it.
Oh come on MEC, you finally found the good stuff...it will make you a better man. Obsoletes are all I collect, mostly NJ notes and private scrip. I've posted some of it on other threads but I don't think on this one. I'll have to do some scans and post them here. Welcome to the club! Bruce
Hey Bruce - I fear the bottomless pit that is the endless variation of obsolete notes out there, but there are such nice vignettes, I finally could not help myself. I got one, then two, then uh oh... Today, I post a new Scotland, British Linen Bank one pound note. Sure do like the colors on these Scottish notes...
Three nights in a row, might just be able to keep up... today's new pickup is... a star. 1934 and Dallas, and a $5 to boot (fives seem hard to come by), and this is the second recorded...
Today's new pickup is another obsolete, and another NECB - at this point, why not collect the entire set? Tougher than it looks as the denoms get higher, I think there's a $3, a $10, and others out there that might be tough. The $2 has the nice green spirograph overprint, and nice detail, and it's in nice shape as well...
MEC, it is good to see you back and posting! Here is a $3 obsolete I picked up. I try to limit myself to only those with Native American vignettes... (Not like that always happens)
Good find. So many obsolete notes are remainders and never issued. Yours is actually signed, has a serial number and is dated. So it may have actually circulated, yet it is in excellent shape.
Agree with Sam, my favorite obsoletes are signed, dated, and issued, with just a touch of circulation... Today's new pickup is from Egypt, slowly filling in those gaps in my Egypt collection, this is Five Egyptian Pound note from a series of 3 they did, a red, this green, and the rarer spider web seal front, which is still on my get list. Still, got this in great condition and price, so I'm quite happy with the get. You can just make out the Egyptian Eagle watermark...
