It's your hard earned cash. If its not the coin you want, don't show any green. There's a ton of those. Find the best looking one and buy it. Don't settle.

We also spent $5 on world coins at .20-.25 apiece. My son is very happy.

Cool. And the point of this thread wasn't for me to dominate it with my questions. If there are any other newbies with questions, fire away.

Glad you and your son made it back home with some money still in your pockets. :)

It is definitely OK (heck, it's incumbent upon you) to walk away when the coin you're thinking of purchasing doesn't measure up to your standards. If the price is good, but the coin is so so, you're not going to be happy with it down the road. Don't make the mistake of 'settling' for something you'll regret purchasing later on. One of my buddies used to say, 'why is there never enough time to do the job right but always enough time to do it over? :) Do it right the first time and you won't have to repurchase something that you're unhappy with in the future......

I know you posted this in Feb. but I just went to my first coin show last month and it was in Nashua, NH also and took my seven year old.

What did you think of the show? I really enjoyed it and a majority of the dealers were of great help and gave me great advice when I told them it was my first show and a beginner.

Did you find a the 2009 Lincoln Commem and if you did how much? I am actually looking for one right now that is how I found this post, I did a search for 09 lincoln.

Buying bulk lots of world coins is a good idea if you or your son want coins to play with in hand. Buying a pound of ancients will probably be very disappointing. Most of those bulk ancient lots are nothing but a bunch of rocks - totally unrecognizable culls. If you want ancients in your collection, buy nice coins from the get-go. Some Late Roman Bronzes are so common they cost less than most US collector coins that are only a hundred years old. And you can find them in very high states of preservation.
