    Cool galley mate !

Got one on a double sestertius. It's a bit green though...
And BTW don't be afraid of a gigantic picture, I don't have any smallest to show off with

It's a tremendous little set of coins, Jerry. Well-done!

This has been an educational thread for me. What little I know of Roman history and numismatics is mostly confined to the early 4th-century, so it's been good to look at everyone's offerings and get an overview of the history.

Nice one. I always liked the boat reverse. Somewhat hard to get.

Mine was one that came up at the right time. Some of his coins have weak reverses and this had good relief on both sides.

Here is my Postumus Ant. He looks a bit ominous with the lightning. It is a pain to take a picture of a silver coin on a tablet.

No. They're not. "Worth" is entirely relative. Your collection is worth what it's worth to you. If you garner any significant emotional or intellectual satisfaction from your coins, they are worth as much to you as my coins are worth to me.

I've collected cheap coins and expensive, and I've discovered that a $10 coin can be just as exciting as a $1000 coin. Either one can fire my imagination if it presents some unusual variation, or connects to an intriguing location, or time, or person.

Concern about market worth is the realm of modern collectors. If you really want to collect ancients, free yourself of those shackles.

I agree with most of this except I can not comment on the part about a $1000 coin since I have never paid that much for one coin. Given $1000 to spend on coins, I am more likely to buy several (2, 4, 8, 16 or 32) lesser coins than one $1000 example. It is a choice we all make in our pursuit of the hobby.

I don't have the galley antoninianus and my big bronze is not nearly as nice as Cucumbor's, Postumus bronzes are usually pretty awful looking with weak reverses. They are also the last big bronzes in the Roman series until you get to the Byzantine M coins. There are Aurelian bronzes called sestertii in the hobby but they are more the size of an as of the Severan period. I'll tack on my other two Postumus AE just to make the point that you will have to look harder to find nice ones (and pay a few thousand).

There are also dupondius size coins of the types which tend to look rather barbarous. I don't own one and am not willing to pay the same price for them that I might for the full size version.

JA I'm talking about if I wanted to buy the said coins.

I agree with the sentiment of the argument though.

    => thanks chrsmat71 ... I hope it didn't drag-on too long

Although I had fun, I think posting coins one at a time is a bit more fulfilling (there is more interaction between the other members) ... I'm pretty sure that some members lost interest/attention and therefore didn't even know that I was posting a new coin ... anyway ... again, thanks (it was fun!!)

    :)

Here is a fun fact for ya. Moosehead is the only Canadian beer that you can easily buy in Iceland. It was like a taste of home when I was there. A nasty, skunky taste of home. All we could say was 'thank god it isn't kokanee'

I agree. I like discussions of history and numismatics. The alphabetical thread is interesting, to see what everyone's collected, but it's sort of like walking through a large museum. You can't possible take in everything and learn something substantial. One-at-a-time discussions are much better, at least in my opinion.

Yah, the only reason I decided to do it in this fashion was because of the particular-association between all of the coins ... know what I mean? (I obviously went-out on a hunt to create a group of coins with a theme, so it merely seemed logical to present them in succession)

... but again, I doubt that I'll ever try and collect in this fashion again, so I doubt that I'll ever present any of my "new" coins in this manner (NOTE => presenting a group of coins that I already own is definitely a different matter)
