What is your rarest (in terms of presumed surviving examples) US coin?

    Hi guys,

Wondering what your rarest US coin is, in terms of how many examples are thought to be surviving today. This is not a "lowest overall mintage" rarest, this is a "there are supposedly 200 or so examples in the world today" rarest coin. This can be a standard US mint coin, a die variety, a colonial, a Civil War Token, etc.

    I'll go first...

My rarest so far is a 1788 Connecticut Colonial with a rarity of R6.

Second rarest would probably be my Constellatio Nova, Crosby 1-A listed as R4, though by the sparse listings on ebay, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a little bit rarer than that.

From a mintage of 16k, likely a few hundred remain reverse_thumb_3383781-009_2013_2_6_7_11_24-1.jpg

This is a Civil War storecard Fuld NY630-3a it's rated an R-7 so there's about 11-20 of them left . Thomas White was a NY butcher , thus the pic of the pig . It's not my rarest but the rarest I have a decent pic of .

I love patterns , some are better than the ones that made it to coinage . How about a pic ?
Also how many did they make ?

This is one I have shared before, but it is my rarest. It is the 1797 NC-5 and is rated R6 with an estimated 19-24 known.

It is a new obverse die paired with the reverse of the 1796 S-113, S-114 and S-115.

I was about to hate informing you that this wasn't a 1788 when I noticed it is properly labeled 1783 on the photo...

Kind of hard to say really. I mean, I have tokens that I am pretty sure not many survive, but I have no idea. For US mint products I have a run of SL halves in the 1880's with mintages of 10k or less.

I guess being around ancients so long now it has immunized me to rarity. Rarity is really only a concern if you are looking to buy something. I have a few pieces only a handful or less are known, but I don't like them for that fact, I like them for what they are. Most of the time I wish they were more common so I could buy more types. Its not a lot of fun collecting something that you have to wait a few years for a single example to be for sale.

until I sold it I would have to say my avatar, the 1982 small date zinc DDR. I discovered it in 2oo7 and to the best of my knowledge the total pop count to date is 3.

For me it has to be this store card. In brass this is a Fuld Rarity 10, unique. Not listed in the Fuld's second edition reference, it will be in the third edition.
