I have a 2012 D Nickel That looks like the word "Liberty" is doubled and also on the date and the words "WE TRUST" (though not as obvious as the date). Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. 2012 Nickel 2.jpg 2012 Nickel 1.jpg

both of these are good examples of mechanical doubling and are not worth more than face value. the mint workers has to overuse the dies nowdays to keep up with the huge demand for coins , this may be why so many coins shows damage.

Actually, more than face has been achieved. My daughter has sold abouty a dozen from 2.-5. The last few years they've really cranked them out.

Edit: I want to make it clear she's not one of those that advertise these as a 2X die. Strictly MD.

I see folks getting ripped off all the time on ebay by buying what some sellers is calling MD coins. this is IMO both the seller and buyers fault. first off a seller should not try to sell a MD coin because it is only a spender and anyone that knows what a MD coin is knows this , second it is the buyers fault from not learning about what they are buying before buying it.

EDIT; I forgot to mention thay also some ebay sellers are trying to sell MD coins as DDRs and DDOs this is likely to be because the seller don't want to learn what he or she is selling.

I disagree with this. Who are you to tell someone what is collectable and what is not? Let people collect what they want, whether it be doubled dies, or common mechanical doubled coins. If a seller clearly states that the coin is mechanical doubling and someone buys it, the seller has done nothing wrong whatsoever.

I am not a seller or a buyer. I am just interested in coin collecting and what to look for. I am a beginner. Thank you all for your time and responses.

well you are in the right spot to learn about coins. I always love to see new folks get interested in collecting coins. I have enjoyed collecting coins and about all types of old things for around 50 years and still learn new things from the internet.

I have a 2012 Liberty nickel it looks like a p underneath the word Liberty . The first time I looked at the nickel the eyes stood out better than anything other than the word Liberty. It's like they're looking into your soul they're so prominent. I guess this falls under what you were talking about how the ink is so heavy.
