(Not my coin. Courtesy of Wildwinds.com) Tiberius, Æ sestertius, (26.81g) Rome Mint, 36-37 AD, Quadriga right. TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVST P M TR POT XXXIIX around large SC. RIC 66; BMC 130. What number is this supposed to represent? Thirty-eight? Thanks ahead of time, guy
Yes. There is also an as with the rudder on globe reverse from this same year with 38 expressed the same way. Titus issued coins in his ninth year with TRP numbers expressed both ways (VIIII and IX). I had not heard but rather like the idea of avoiding IV for religious reasons.
Thank you for your response Ancient Doug. I did not mean to hijack this thread, so I will share some of my English / British friends: Love those copper farthings. Still reasonably priced, they are. So full of history. They are the coin that the average person from England, Wales, or Scotland would have used on a regular basis. (That's my rationalization, at least, for not collecting the more expensive gold sovereign from the same period). guy
An amazing piece ! I am working on upgrading mins actually, going to wait for the London coin fair again though next time I'm down as I know they had a lot of this there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
About the time I start collecting , a freshmen girl found a necklace she thought. Her mom took to a jewelry shop to do something. It was a very rare British gold coin. What she had was a 1650-6?$5.00. Her family sold it to Nyc.auctions house.. Upstate. New York were I grew up in the Hudson valley their was a lot British gold+European family. I think they sold for about 10,000. Tv New had to 1956 1957 that was news .
Well, Not British, but Canadian 1911 'Godless' Large Cent MS67 Brown PCGS I just love this coin! Have had it for a few weeks. The one-year "Godless" type, and the surfaces are as smooth as a baby's butt. Glints of red remaining in the peripheries and a superb strike. One of only two coins in this grade level at PCGS for the entire George V Large cent (1911-1920) type, the other being an MS67 Red 1912. Enjoy! Best Regards, George
Thanks I just checked the NGC population report and they have graded only 27 of these this being the only MS63 wit some higher and some lower
1901 Old Head Victoria Maundy Set PCGS MS66-MS67 I bought this set because of the high condition and incredible eye appeal of each piece. I always enter all my inventory in the PCGS site because it helps me keep track of everything. This set instantly formed the #1 Finest Old Head 1901 Maundy set in the PCGS Registry, and the #2 Victoria Old Head (1893-1901) Type Set! Enjoy! Best Regards, George
Speechless George!!!! Nice I wish Ngc or Pcgs could do,is somehow graded outer Maundy set holder. after all its a set.my2c?
Me too Jello. They do have four-part NGC holders, not sure about PCGS. And I think the cases were made separately/afterward, not coming with the coins. Any Brit friends know for sure? Best Regards, George
Your right Ngc has been doing it!!! I think I just added Ngc with mind on autopilot,as to Tpg. I meant only Pcgs... 1 more> brain Fart
