worn down penny front.jpg worn down penny side 2.jpg worn down penny side view.jpg worn penny 6.jpg worn penny back 4.jpg worn penny.jpg I have had this penny for many years. It is an interesting one very worn and weight is 2.51 grams. I am sure it weighed more since it is smaller than a normal penny. You can see the date 19 and maybe a 7 for the 3rd number. It is very smooth and just an interesting penny.

There are collectors who like well worn coins. Some of them even have registry sets.

Penny Loafer reminds me of my shoes my made me wear in my younger days. I always had a penny in them.

Wow I did not know that. I have kept it because it was so interesting to me and I had never seen one like it. I came across it today trying to organize my pennies.

I don't think your coin has normal circulation wear on it. The wear patterns do not match a normally worn cent. There is just to much of the rim gone. All coins wear flat from normal circulation wear. It does not look like it has been filed/sanded down to its present size.
I think it is possible that it was struck on a thin planchet, making it an error coin.

Thanks I will research that and hopefully learn more about that error. I am glad I saved that penny.

Looks like it has been loose in a dryer for a long time, trapped and rotated with one face against the edge. If your dryer makes "dinging" noise, almost always one being rubbed down. Jim

I agree. I found a dime in the dryer once that looked very similar to your coin.
