1941 Large-S Mercury?

    I'm thinking this is a large-S, but I'm questioning it simply because there were so many different mint marks in 1941.

    Yeah, that's the large, "trumpet tail" S. This one is from the most common of the four dies with that style of mintmark (in my opinion). The other dies have the mintmark lower and more to the right so the S doesn't cover as much, or any, of the leaf. I have only found 1 from the latter die in mint state and, unfortunately, it was being sold by a guy for whom every dime with even a hint of a line on the middle bands is priced as a FSB. As much as I wanted it, I wasn't going to pay $55 dollars for a run-of-the-mill 65.​

    Yeah, any nickels with a couple of lines were full steps, and I'd bet your comment applies there as well. Actually, I often point out good coins that dealers might have missed, but don't have any qualms about cherry-picking guys like this.
