Around here it is a crime to not make good on a check. Why not just sick the cops on him?

Where I work checks are treated like a debit purchase. No more bad checks.

I'd take a check from a stranger before some of my family members...

Last weekend I bought some numismatics from a flea market dealer, paid him cash for the first item around $700; then I showed interest in some of his other items and said I had a limited amount of cash on me for group #2. So I said here is a check and ship them to me when the check clears. He said take the coins and if the check bounced he would be at my house banging on the door for his money. lmao! If the check bounced he would never find me as the address on the check differs from my physical address. But I have lots of dealer credentials which does help in knowing who to trust, or ask around with other dealers who have taken your checks. Without something to go by, taking a check is just dumb.

Here are some pictures of last weekend flea market dealer's inventory, not the Albany show guy:

Hopefully he's able to make good on the situation. I've paid with checks at coin shows many times and it seems most dealers accept them as readily as cash. I've noticed now that many are getting with the times and getting cube and other devices that allow them to accept credit and debit cards on their phones. It beats having to carry around a wad of cash making yourself a target.

  9. While i see how haveing all your money on plastic is good i also see it as the goverment dream.
With all moneys on plastic and no cash all your earnings no matter how small will be taxed.
Also that guy you know that will fix your car for far less that you pay cash to will be a thing of the passed.
Goverment loves those that keep those plastic cards and pay for everything with them.
I love to have those big money rolls and when they get too fat i have my own safe for them.

The temptation will always be there at coin shows, etc., to take a chance on a check with a drivers license especially when business is slow from someone you don't know.

On the whole cash economy, there are honest and accountable business transactions with cash, but just as many crooks, black market con artists, etc., who insist on cash and do all their transactions with cash. How many deadbeats are there out there afraid of being caught, in the cash economy they usually won't be? There is a reason the system has evolved as it has, and numismatics seems to be particularly affected by cash scammers at times. How can the authorities interdict theft without paper trails and records of transactions?
