thanks jjOO => yah, I always challenge my other fellow Canadian collectors to find a nicer 1893 25 cent piece (it was rated as an AU55) ... Gratifyingly => there has never been a significant/successful challenger ... but I would "love" to see a similar/nicer example!! ..... I love seeing other people's coins!! but yes => it certainly is "my precious"
I like that 1. I have just started collecting Ethipia... I do not have your coin yet. I also like them for the lion.
Thanks Sprit, I enjoy your post and collection. I like the Etheopian coin for a few reasons, its design, condition, mintage only 100,ooo, and a nice tone.
Nice coin. In the price range akin to the Fine Greek Coins...Vicky is pretty but she looked better in 1889.
This 500 Lire coin from Italy has long been a favorite of mine. It depicts a young woman in medieval dress on the obverse. It depicts the three ships that Columbus sailed on the reverse.
Yeah, I really like early 20th century Italian. I have the 1 and 2 lire that is a recreation of a Roman chariot scene, and a few from the 1920's as well. I have to admit though I would probably trade all of them, (ignoring money), for your coin. Very pretty.
Btw, its great to talk about coins you like, but "favorite"? Its like picking a favorite child, you love them all.
I agree with others. A single "favorite" is next to impossible. But, I will post one of my many favorites. These Bank of Upper Canada pieces were minted in 1850, 1852, 1854, and 1857 in both half penny and penny denominations. While quite common in circulated condition (XF and below), they are more difficult to find in AU, and downright hard to find in true MS condition. This beauty came into my possession earlier this year, and when I received it in hand it had some great blue tones that were not clear from the auction pictures. The obverse is a rendition of the beautiful and well known Benedetto Pistrucci design of St. George slaying the dragon. 1857 Upper Canada Half Penny, NGC MS63BN
nice coin...I do not have this coin...is it from China ? my favorite countries for star coins are Cuba, Morocco, and Turkey.
