I been having a debate about this cent and collector told me what I have is a NEW DOUBLE DIE variety. it is almost identical to wexlers 1972 DDO-005 what do You guys think?
Does any of the other doubling match? There should be a spread in the motto. In addition, what you are pointing out on the tail of the 2 is NOT a doubled die. It is flat and takes away from the design rather than adds to it. Therefore, just because your coin has the same anomaly, that does NOT make it the doubled die listed.
Two things. 1) The tail of the two on both examples you posted have nothing to do with the doubled die, but instead are just unfortunate damage. Either contact or a rolling machine finger. 2) The other things you point to in your example are not part of the doubling of WDDO-005. The key doubling(as far as the date goes) on 005 is the extra horizontal tail North of the primary. Your coin is a normal coin for the date.
Im not saying is the same exact as wexlers but You can definitely the resemblance. Im pointing at the 2 to show the similarities and also that little spec at the tip of the 2. and when You say spread in the motto what do You mean?
On WDDO-005 there is doubling on IN GOD WE TRUST as well. But as Jody said, your coin is normal for the date.
Im looking through some cents now give me a sec and I will upload the pics for LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST.
