Im fairly new to the collecting world <5 years. I currently collect the Lincoln series pretty intensely. (1 complete circulated set and working on a uncirculated set.) A birth year set including gold/Comm./proof. and Peace dollars. Now im stuck on what set to work on next. I like the Barber coins, Buffalos and even Morgans. But what is a fairly easy set i can work on while still concentrating mostly on my Lincolns?
You ask for a fairly easy set which leaves out alot of US coin series. So how about a complete set of Kennedy halves without the proofs?
You can do a circulated "V" nickel set inexpensively. There are 3 key dates. Plenty of ugly circulated ones available on eBay for not a ton of money. You should try something in the 1800's. A circulated Flying eagle and indian head cent can be done even with the keys if you take your time.
I would go with the Jeffersons in UNC. Your birth year set includes a Peace Dollar? Getting kind of old aren't you?
Silver Roosevelt dimes (1946-1964). Business strikes and proofs if you want. A quiet collecting area. I suspect it's underpriced and you can do MS-66 and PF-67 without a serious hit to your wallet.
I would go with that too. or a Franklin set. ms65 isn't too hard on the wallet if you don't go FBL but it's still a nice set. I went the proof also but that takes a while if you want higher grades (67) in those.
I am fooling around with a lower grade Buffalo nickel set in an old Whitman classic album. Yesterday at the Auburn, MA show one dealer had the 1914-D in low grade priced at $280. I passed. Some of the early dates are tough. I did get a 1914-P in VF for $17.
I could be snide, but instead, consider that 'grammar correctness' aside, coervi separated the constituents of his list with periods, and he made no claim between peace dollars and his birth date. Including 'and' was a clear indication that following it was the last item on the list. That is all.
I'm not a fan of Barbers personally, but they are popular and abundant in all grades from what I have seen, so putting together most of the set for whatever denomination should be relatively easy. Indian head cents are also pretty fun, and if you collect them, you can have a full date run of 1C coins from 1859-current!
Walkers are always fun. Start with the forties an MS 62 to 64. I'm almost got the forties now. Fun fun fun.
When I started, I worked on sets that were still in circulation. Thus, I would suggest Jefferson Nickels, Rosy Dimes, Washington Quarters, State Quarters, Territory Quarters, ATB Quarters, and SAC/Presidential Dollars (if you consider them in circulation).
