I have yet to find any ATB quarter in circulation in Ohio but recently in Vegas I received several in change with the D mintmark, along with several barely circulated nickels and dimes. Are people hoarding the quarters to a great degree? I just find it terribly odd that of all the millions minted they never turn up around here. I imagine the businesses in Vegas go through an inordinate amount of coins so they probably order thousands of bags.
An office colleague of mine obtained two 2013P White Mountains National Park quarters in change last weekend and sold them to me. These are the first 2013-dated quarters received all year. I have been accumulating all post-2008 circulation coins in a small glass baby food jar and it is only half full. (The glass jar must be 45 years old!)
I can't help but think production numbers for these are going to be fairly low. I have yet to find a 2012 ATB quarter in circulation here in Wisconsin, let alone a 2013. I really hate to pay retail for coins I should be finding in circulation.
I have been lucky here in east Texas. I have a full set of circulating ATB quarters. The newest ones show up about 3-4 months after they're released.
I have found multiples of every ATB quarter both P and D in circulation with the exception of the Chaco Culture - D. I haven't seen one of them in the wild yet. I live not to far from Philly and I search about $100 in quarters a week.
I see a few every now and then. When I see a good specimen i put it in an air-tite. So far I have: 2010 - Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Hot Springs 2011 - Vicksburg, Gettysburg, Glacier 2012 - Acadia, Denali 2013 - Perry's Victory, Great Basin, White Mountain I'm also trying to get a 5 oz silver bullion one of each. Having better luck with that than I am with the regular quarters!
I agree. I have purchased each one of the 5 oz uncirculated "pucks," along with my annual proof and uncirculated sets from the US Mint, but I have not received more than a few ATB quarters in change for the entire period they have been issued. I have kept each of the ones found in circulation.
Well, you're ahead of me. I haven't found any (but then I'm not seriously looking). I wonder if the Federal Reserves are still trying to get rid of the glut of state quarters. I wouldn't be surprised if their vaults are stuffed with mint state quarters that haven't been distributed yet.
I started collecting them from pocket change. I am a bit dismayed at the lack of enthusiasm for them. When the 50 State Quarters came out, people were trading Ds for Ps and so on. Each new issue brought a round of "I found one!" sometimes with contests... But that was 15 years ago... One thing I noticed - and this has come up in other threads on grading - is that all of the strikes I see are stunning. They have not had a chance to wear yet, of course, but even so, I see many high-60s.
Ah! Well, here in Austin, it's a bit thinner... When I lived in Ohio and Michigan, Ds were a bit scarcer, but not much. Here, we see a real mix of moneys, lots of older issues, tons of 50 State Quarters, but even the paper comes from all over the Federal Reserve Map.
Well since I made that post I have found 2 Chaco Culture-D's Now I'm just missing the newest Mt. Rushmore.
When many people are doing the latter, we have the former. In other words, we won't see them in circulation unless we circulate them.
I hadn't seen this thread before - maybe it's an Ohio thing. I've only ever gotten one National Parks quarter in circulation myself...
I'm in east Texas as well and Loomis has actually delivered us full rolls of 2013 ATB quarters, just haven't given any thought to buying them.
True in Sacramento as well. I had a Mt. Rushmore this morning, I think I spent it at Starbucks. I have a Great Basin right now in my pocket.
I finally received a White Mountain at a local Walgreens. That's the extent of ATB's that I have seen in Ohio.
As a bank teller, I see them all the time. Right now it's mostly Perry's Victory and Ft. McHenry, with a few White Mountains. Last fall Great Basin's were also common, but they seem to have dropped off. I've found (and retained) 3 Mount Rushmore's so far. I see the other ones come through randomly; I've seen them all at some point or another, but only recently stared collecting them. I don't pay much attention to mint marks, but in Missouri, we seem to be more in "D" territory out here. Can't wait to see the Smoky Mountain quarters in circulation, as that's where my wife and I honeymooned when we got married in 2012.
