A whole lot of nothing VS a little bit of gold.

How can that make one a victim if thats what they like to do? Ive said it a million times....collecting isn't about monetary value. If it is you're an investor, not a collector. I'd rather have the coins I like and not worry about how much they are worth or what they'll fetch at auction when I'm gone. Thats ridiculous.

IMO, the only dumb way to
    collect coins is going into
debt to buy them or continuing
to carry debt using money that
can go towards getting rid of 18%
interest. If debt is not returning
more than what your payiny to
carry it, then it's your slave master.

Other than that, there is no wrong
way to collect. I never had so much
fun collecting as when I was going to
coin shows buying Peru Un Sol crowns.
They have a seated motiff and even
tone grey like seated dollars. Why should
I like them any less than actual seated
seated dollars, just because no one else
wanted them and I was buying them for
scrap when silver was hovering at $6.
    Thanks, suckers! :)

I have a question for you Detecto.
if you had to sell all your coins and use the money to buy only ONE coin, what would that coin be ? just curious what your dream coins are

I don't own very many coins.

I get two themes so far from this post.

One is keep everything you buy because you love it and then savor it.

The other is buy and sell everything for a profit.

I am right in the middle. I keep what I really like (for a while) and then sell it for a profit, along with what I don't like for a bigger profit.

I only buy a couple to a few coins a year, and when I do, I go for the best I can afford. I have a small collection, yes, but it's very good. That's my style, anyway. Buy to buy once, not to upgrade later, and get the key dates first.

I took about $100 worth of my collection and sold it all at a flea market this morning. All the stuff that had rim dings, corrosion, wear, etc. Although that was 1/3 of my collection, I now have money for better coins, and all "junk" is gone.

I collect for the enjoyment of collecting. Coins are special to me. I have my favorites, walkers, and I also love modern commoratives that have to do with the military. I present them to my friends who also served. It make me feel good and the guys love them.
