Please help flag this crap. There should be a sticky for this. Keep someone from getting burned http://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-S-VDB-...11?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3384d3119b
I'm pretty sure that ebay does not allow the sale of unmarked counterfeits, regardless of if they are mentioned in the title or not (someone can correct me if I am wrong on this).
as long as you put its not real, you can sell it on eBay, I take some photos today of a one dollar gold piece I bought on ebay for 5 dollars, and yes, the gold is real, but the coins a fake, and I new that when I bought it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Non-cents is correct, and you other guys are wrong. You can NOT list fakes, replicas (marked or unmarked), imitations, counterfeits "teaching aids" or whatever else you want to call them. EBay is very clear on this policy, and the auctions of such are reportable and WILL be removed.
I don't think you know what your talking about, like I said, I'll take photos of two fake coins, that were listed as fake, I bought on ebay the site don't lie http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trk...fake+coins&_nkw=fake+coins&_sacat=0&_from=R40
heres more fakes for you, from ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Goldtone-Fa...028632?pt=Fashion_Jewelry&hash=item5ad1547098
Take it easy Rick... I do know what I'm talking about. You have to understand the logistics involved with policing eBay auctions, and I agree that many fakes slip through the cracks. I truly believe that many hundreds of counterfeits are sold every day... but that doesn't mean eBay is looking the other way. Their policy is very clear... NO replicas, no fakes, no counterfeits... whatsoever. Here's their policy: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/currstamps.html
Thats why I quite selling on ebay, their policing means nothing, its all a lie, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Two-Jumbo-O...433?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item232e0f4e81
heres more fakes from ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/1937-GEORGE...656?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2581a3c910
Rick... you seem to have a personal vendetta against the 'Bay, lol. Seriously, why don't you join the CFe (Coin Forgery eBay) group and help with the policing of "all things counterfeit"? This group assists in the removal of fake coins, and apparently their efforts result in fewer of this type of auction. It's a closed (private) group, but they accept new members upon request: http://community.ebay.com/t5/groups/grouppage/board-id/g-100003450
I do, I sold a 1854 type 2 one dollar gold piece, graded by pcgs at xf-45, ebay let this gentlemen cut the coin from its slab, then wanted to return the coin, out of its slab, to make a long story short, I had to refund him the money, and received the coin back, and now it wasn't slabbed anymore, that was the last item I ever sold on ebay !!!!!!!!!!
I find it hard to believe that eBay would allow a buyer to crack out a coin from an approved TPG and return it for full refund. The coin, if returned, must be returned in the slab, otherwise the buyer could put any coin in the return envelope. You didn't fight this one hard enough.
Just because it's against eBay's rules doesn't mean it won't sell. I've seen a ton of Liberty Dollars (norfed) sold on eBay and those are not allowed either...
I think you mean seller protection. Buyers have all the protection, as any item can be returned for a full refund. But it must be in the same condition as received. Therefore, the scenario Rick painted is invalid, and the refund would not be granted.
As I stated, the logistics involved presents an insurmountable task for eBay alone to handle; therefore, every auction page, in the lower right hand corner, has a "report item" button. They depend on members and "watch dog" groups to help identify questionable listings. There are a few CT members that have literally reported thousands of auctions, and the majority of them were removed. I personally believe that somewhere around 15% to 20% of all coin listings are in violation of eBay policy... and that is a considerable amount.
Also, ebay had photos of what the coin looked like. (slabbed) and photos of what the coin looked like when it was sold, I had ebay do an investigation on the matter, and told them the product was altered ( not slabbed anymore ) they still didn't care !
They don't allow the sale of any coin even if it is marked 'Copy' or you specify it is not real. I listed some replica coins and specifically stated they were replicas and it was pulled. The original link has been removed so I can't determine if this case is similar. From Ebay security forces: This listing was for a coin, bar or bullion that appears the same or similar to one that was issued by a government mint. This is considered a "replica" which we no longer allow on our site, regardless of age or if the item(s) is stamped with the word COPY. We ask that you please do not relist this item.
So I saw a replica coin on ebay, marked as a copy, and tried to report it. I got to this page, which you will see, I could not honestly complete... "The item in this listing is a replica coin, replica paper money, or replica stamp that has not been clearly marked as a reproduction, replica, or copy." But it is clearly marked as a copy, so...
