Hello all, Meow is preparing to send items for grading soon. Meow has Catsonally has never tried it. But.......Meow is going to be grading Meow's Cat Comic Collection via the Cat Hoard. Meow has joined CGC and will be submitting soon. Meow thinks CGC is a relative of NGC. Since Meow does not have much of a nice vintage coin collection, grading coins for Meow is not really viable. But Meow has a big comic collection from when Meow was a Kitten so Meow thought it might be worth a try. Besides did you guys think shiny coin rolls were the only thing in the Cat Hoard?

Anyone here ever use CGC? If so any pointers? Or any advice from experienced coin graders here that might be helpful to Meow?

Meow is grading comic books. But was asking to see if there was any advice on grading in general.

I've been collecting comics since the early 80s, but like coins, I have never really embraced the "graded" stuff. Most of my comics are readers copies or what would qualify and 7.5-9.2, undesirable in the graded comics category.

I have bought a few comics that were already graded and that's because the price was right.

I assume sending comics is the same as coins, paperwork, mail/insurance, long wait for grading and then the return.

Just make sure they are in near mint state or if they are a major key issue in a series, otherwise, it wouldn't be worth it.

I think this is good advice.
I had a small collection and in good shape, did the research and nothing of great value so I gave them to my brothers kid for his collection...they were older then he was.

I know one thing. My brother had so many in the day, some never touched. I guess that’s with everyone like in baseball cards etc. The ones he had! :wideyed: Good luck to you!

What do you think of Meow's submissions? Not the best stuff Meow has for sure, but just some stuff in good condition that Meow came across in the Cat Hoard. Many, many more boxes that still have not been looked through in over 20 years. But if the results turn out really bad the first time, then Meow may just give up on it.

I had to look up some and most don't seem like they're worth the submission value themselves. I collect Silver and Bronze age, so I am unfamiliar with the first appearances or "events", some may be.

But, since this is your first time, you might get a surprise or two. Like raw vs graded coins, the price spread can be pretty significant, if it's graded well, or not.

Meow is a bit dissapointed in the grades. Especially the bad ones 7.0 an 8.0, they looked good to Meow but oh well. Meow will submit another batch in a month or so.

At least the results were quick and you got some higher grades. Even if it wasn't financially beneficial, you can use the grades as a lesson. See if you can figure out the reason for some of the lower ones and use that to fine tune what you submit next time.

Yes, Meow feels that way. Meow figures the 9.6 ones could have been better by luck or the graders mood that day. At high grades those would be worth a decent amount. The Amazing Spiderman 361 in Newstand has sold on fleabay for $600. Meow has a few more of those so will keep trying for a better grade on that one.

Meow is not sure who might read this thread as it is not about coins. But the limited CRH Meow has been doing has yielded Meow a 1920s penny found yesterday. It is a bit on the slick side, but still very readable. Meow will attempt to dig up the wheat penny album out of the Cat Hoard and place it in it.
