Hey, gang, I am a newb and was hoping for some help with my Morgan. It has a rich, complete chocolate brown toning (darkish). Can anyone help with grading. I'm not selling ... just curious. For instance, has this toning decreased the value? I know it's not a rainbow so may not be desirable. It's a common date so probably isn't counterfeit. It has most of its detail. Has some wear on the high points where you would expect to find it on the obverse. The reverse has very little wear. It has some small, minor scratching.

The obverse is darker than this picture shows

If the obverse is the same tone as the reverse, that's exactly the kind of toning you want in 1800's circulated silver. IMO that's more desirable than rainbows. You certainly don't want to clean it.

Toning is pretty desirable in currency, and from what I know, toning is created when a coin is at either end of a roll.

Toning is created when a coin is exposed to very mild factors, like small amounts of sulfur for silver.

To my knowledge Morgans were generally stored in bags, not rolls.

Yeah, but some people did roll them up occasionally when they reached the banks.

Thanks for those comments! Any help on grading? I really think it's better than just vf.

Now that's what a collectible Morgan should look like. Handsome coin. Be proud of it.
