Yes, but how many are between the ages of 21 and 32 as of May 2014? I remember reading somewhere that the median age of coin collectors is 57 years old. While there may be 30,000-ish members of the ANA, I would guess the number who meet the age requirements is a very small fraction of those. Not to mention, by the time you remove the people who are ANA members in that age category who are already gainfully employed in something other than numismatics -- I'd fathom the number of eligible persons would be quite sparse.
Do they have a Statlor & Waldorf internship for a TPG balcony hecklers? I could go for something like that.
Out of curiosity - is the e-mail address authentic? As far as I know, the PNG does not have/use the png.com domain ... Christian
Who? Ken/Green18? He is young at heart. And only 60 years off. [FYI: I know that it isn't Ken. I hate it when I know that I have to explain my comments.]
Detecto's Member Number starts with BY which is a youth membership. A while ago He let us know he was going to lie to the ANA to save a few bucks........YN rates are for children 5 to 17....
Actually when I turned 21 I emailed them and told them I made a mistake on the initial membership and then paid for an adult membership.
If you look at the post above you can see he has posted his member number for all to see in his signature line. As for him telling them he made a "mistake" ? He stated here previously that the act was deliberate to save money so apparently he still isn't being truthful about it.
Two lies don't make a right. You lied the first time about your age and then when you turned 21 you lied again saying you made a "mistake". Good grief Charley Brown.
He could have made it really interesting, instead of fessing up to 'making a mistake' and converting to an adult membership, he could have said he had a little brother who purchased it in his name and now that he found out, he was making it right.
I am not sure if he has a younger brother, but he does have an underage significant other in Michigan that he can pin blame on.
My point is he doesn't need to have a little brother, it's just a whole heck of a lot more fun to lie if you make the lie worthwhile. His lie about him 'making a mistake' is simply trying to allow himself the luxury of getting the adult membership (which now may enable him to put in for some sort of internship) --- which seems to be now in his best interest, since that email is saying it's possible he would qualify for it --- without admitting he has no scruples in getting a membership rate he doesn't qualify for. Again he places the blame on a 'mistake' rather than his intentional desire to be dishonest in getting the membership in the first place. So....if you are going to lie, why not be a 'better' person about lying, don't blame the ubiquitous 'mistake', direct it totally away from you. Makes a better story. But, I think that this 'honesty' move right now is not 'honesty', but trying to change his position to get something else. Not a good move, since it's all for the wrong reasons.
Something smells fishy here... if you really wanted to do the honest thing, why wait until your 21st birthday to do so?
Good point: Why would he even get the letter in the OP if he wasn't old enough yet (then) according to their records?
I really do believe Detecto is qualified for an internship at the ANA, he has demonstrated abilities that suit him well in such a fine organisation. He could just add to and enhance the ongoing scandals there. Sorry Detecto, that was unfair - even you are better than that riff raff that quarters in Colorado Springs. At least your little white lies are just that, now some of theirs are rather unsettling.
That is interesting. Me being a total noob to coins I don't know any of that, can you share some of their antics?
