Don't you just hate a dang bidding war? I do my best to stay away from bidding wars but if you're any kind of collector it's practically inevitable. Oh well, just had to vent friends anyone got anything positive to say about a bidding war? I mean, I love it when I'm selling something and I see a couple of bidiots going at it but dang, when I'm being a bidiot, I got's to take a walk. How about you?
That's why, for listings that have a lot of bids and end soon, I use an ebay sniper... Call me evil, but it works!
It depends on the coin. Take my avatar for example. The coin is a pattern Liberty nickel (J-1671 R-6+) that I have been seeking and loosing at auction for many years. For this one, I did a bit of a bidding war with one of my best friends. Luckily his wife was in the room and made him stop bidding. I sent her flowers the next day.
I have to agree, I got hit in the last few seconds after bidding for a time on a coin that I wanted so I started using GavelSnipe. I put in the amount I'm prepared to pay, back away and watch the results. I get about 2/3 of the items I go for...
We got a good laugh out of it. He did something similar when my wife stopped me from bidding on a 1795 three leaves dollar that he eventually won.
Or a coin show. I came home with two eagles, some other coins, and a slightly po'ed wife last weeke d. Or worst than being po'ed, she starts asking why she cannot have a louis vuitton purse if I am going to waste money on coins like that.
Buy her the purse (or maybe a good Chinese knock off) , it's an unwinnable war and your collection will suffer. I bet you wish that pesky spammer that was around here for a while would stop in.
That's why I end eBay listings early. I don't care if I leave money on the table. I'd rather the coin go to someone who showed interest early.
Yes. It's mostly because I hate that eBay allows sniping as it does. That's why I prefer to buy at Heritage.
I see nothing wrong with sniping, its the highest bid that the person wants to place within the time limit, if it beats out the previous maximum bid then so be it. A lot of the time, to win with sniping means you have to overpay because the previous maximum is usually the average worth of the coin.
Lol, you don't know Thai women. They seem all born with the ability to spot knockoffs a mile away, (unfortunately for me).
Bring the competition's wife instead. The answer of course is that in ten years your coins will be worth more than you paid for them, her purse won't be. Of course if you are smart you will never ever say that.
