When PCGS first started plus grading a few years ago, I bought the first 1909 VDB Lincoln Cent to be graded MS67+RD and I paid quite a premium for it... so much so that PCGS used the coin and the price paid in their print and web advertising for awhile... here's one of the web ads that I saved:

Was a really nice example of the 1909 VDB :)

Yea, it's a tough battle! You have an awesome setup but it tends to show too much forcing people to "micro grade". One of the reasons I stick to my cheap setup. It gets the general point across and it's easy to move my light around to try to get the luster to show as cartwheel spokes. It can certainly "hide" some of the coin but it tends to convey how the coin looks in hand well.

Nice job with the BN coins Mark! It gets almost impossible to find nice, brown coins in the newer memorial cents....good luck with that!

62-O.jpg 62-R.jpg 62-O.jpg It's been several months since I made a significant addition to my Lincoln Complete set. I picked up this MS67 1962 yesterday - population 23/0 so very few are available.

Welcome back Don and sweet addition. That coin has a lot of red and very nice strike. Nice

Here is an interesting find that I picked up awhile back for under $15. I think the issue was limited too 99 examples. Although it is not indicated on the label it is a 1960D Small Date Lincoln Memorial.

Very Nice !!! I was at that one in 1997. I didn't get 1 @ the time Venders were to get Items like that unless unsold or hand outs were left over at the end of the event.

Another awesome image from Robec. Here is a picture of my NGC MS67RD 1978 Lincoln Memorial with a current NGC population of 10 in this grade with none higher. Thanks Bob [IMG]

The pic is out of focus, but it does show the color spot on in hand. At least on my monitor.

At that time there was only one example graded MS67+RD... now there are four 1909 VDB cents in that grade. I would guess that number will double in the next couple of years and if that is the case you should be able to score one for less than I was selling mine when it was a pop 1 coin.
