This seems to be an interesting one. The coin actually has a nice RB tone to it, I was messing around with the scope settings. Doesn't appear to be any damage to the MM either. I can seem to find it on coppercoins.com. what do you guys think?
The only way I could see it being an RPM would be a minor split on the top serif. Is that what you are seeing? Otherwise I would have to say normal coin.
The lower serif has a tip on it like the -017, but without the doubling of the lower curve section of the MM and how the transition from the field to the top of the MM has clean, straight lines in that area. It looks rotated.
Maybe what I'm actually seeing is MD. Those clean straight lines through me off. Been going through the copper D bin and it caught my eye.
As Non-Cents states there could be a split of the serif on top but nothing significant. The mint mark on your coin does appear to be punched into the die face at a tilted angle. Based on your images - the west side of the "D" appears to stand at a significantly higher elevation on the coin than the east side. The northwest corner being the highest elevation. Which could indicate the west side of the "D" (which would be the east side when being punched into the die) was punched deeper into the die face than the east side. A somewhat natural tendency for a right handed person - I would think.
