I saw some comment the other day that Britain has it's royals and America has Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton. My Gawd they will make slobbering British monarchists of the sorry lot of us for that comment.

Ernst.jpg View attachment 277010 View attachment 277010 When Vicky was courted Albert and his brother Earnest ( Ernst ) went to England together. Victoria felt for Albert, and Earnest had to return to Germany where he succeeded his father and reigned as a duke of Saxony Coburg and Gotha from 1844 to 1893.
Provided he and not his brother would have married into the english royal family, we would probally have a Royal Earnest Hall today and the Windsors as we know them would look slightly different.

Today, Saxony as well as Coburg and Gotha are parts of, or places in, a republic. No "royal babies" there. :D Love the Guardian website that gave and still gives you the option to choose between a Royalist version (lots of baby coverage) and a Republican version (considerably less of that). Even though I wonder whether it is Republicans only who get tired of the craze.

More royalty. Carl Eduard somehow is the baby of German Empire coinage, a true Benjamin amongst elderly well- bearded gentlemen, beeing only 21 years old when he inheritated the throne.
