Just picked this up at auction for 90 euros hammer and although the coin isn't a 63 RB one in that grade just sold for $2,800 hammer. I will send it to PCGS with quite a few other coins in the next couple of weeks. PCGS grade estimations for it welcome.

I am used to seeing the H for Heaton Mint on coins from SS but not the W for Soho Mint. According to Krause there is a proof version with the W on truncation. 500504_0_original[1]_opt.jpg

I assume that the W indicates James Watt and Co of the Soho Foundry in Birmingham, later to be taken over by Heaton.

Are the spots on the back indicative of removed verdigris? How do the TPGs consider the presence or prior presence of verdigris?

Anacs would grade I think if it was to be graded. Ngc+Pcgs would B>Bag w/Tag$
    But $13-20.00 Anacs could?My2c<^>

So a submission to NCS first wouldn't help?

No. From my understanding (and observation), submitting to NCS first for things that you know are damaged will remove the damaging residue, but not the damage. I still don't completely understand how NCS is able to conserve shipwreck coins, since most of those have pitting or similar damage.

As such, you would pay NCS to remove any residue, but NGC would still give it a details grade.

ANACS then maybe.....though seen some pretty awful examples of these coins without the W with very nice NGC slab results on Liveauctioneers.

Why would that get detailed, Jello? It has normal expected lustre.

11:55 on Rev would be 1 reason a TPG could B-Bag if they wanted too.

What's the reason? I would assume the coin wouldn't be graded because of the verdigris everywhere. :p

Got my ANACS results back and my SS 1875W Cent graded AU55. Another example of same issue, same date with W was VF30.
