The 22 is fabulous and absolutely on my get list - it's one of those I want to get in at least strong VF (like the last note) since it is so nice, alas so many that are out there are the perforated specimens which I don't want, or are pretty well worn. It'll be worth waiting for, great design front AND back...
Sometimes, there are notes that you get and you have to say SHAZAM! So SHAZAM! Love this new pickup, a 5 pound Scotland note from the British Linen Bank. Huge note, great blue color, lot's of engraving detail, great looking front and back, REAL happy with this pickup.
You cant expect him to give up his fishing holes... But I know he has sniped me a time or 2 on Ebay... Here are some top quality RAW notes that are asking me to have them graded:
Yes, yes I can. The Canal Bank series is very common but also really popular - great designs and one of the obsoletes with a notable reverse design. I'm going after some of these and have started to strike gold. Here's my first, a nice design with a wonderful reverse...
Midas - eBay is my main hunting ground. They are not common in decent condition but they can be had with a little effort. Thanks for the compliment there Dunk... Let's mix things up with the absolute latest I got, today an hour ago, a new Brazil and if it's Brazil then it must be another ABNCo design, and this 500 Cruzeiro note doesn't disappoint. Ignore the fat dandy on the face, the allegorical reverse is once again the big design draw on these Brazils, this one shows Mercury and the "Opening of the Ports". One of the harder gets in decent shape. Just cool stuff...
And let's show another new obsolete pickup. As noted I have enjoyed the Canal Bank issues both for nice design and the rarity of a colored reverse design in obsoletes. This $10 Canal Bank issue also fills another proclivity of mine - I love eagle vignettes, and the eagle and entire left side engraving is just spectacular. Big red reverse and we have another winner!
I got some great deals lately, including these repeaters and stars at face value, from ATM and bank withdrawals. Got these silver certificates for cheap as extras from two lots that I purchased. I paid about $1.50 each. 22 silver certificates total, mixed 1935 and 1957 series with 3 stars. I gave one of those SC stars away as a bonus with an auction listing. 1934C and 1934D $5 silver certificates, for about $6 each. And lastly this set. This lot cost me about $50. It includes a 1953A $5 silver cert in Gem Unc condition.
eBay pickup. This is my first ABNCo note with no border on it. I'll have to research this. Thanks for your advice MEC2 I'll keep looking. Mike
As I keep filling my Egypt collection, new notes get rarer, but I did finally get one of the sometimes stubborn to get 5 Pound Central Bank notes. There are three designs of this, issued close together, this is the maroon one. Always love seeing King Tut on a note...
Some more notes: 1928 $20 Chicago - Very Fine 1928B $20 Philadelphia - Very Fine 1934A $20 San Francisco - Crisp Uncirculated 1934A $10 North Africa - Fine + All for just a few dollars over face.
It is a bunch of collection and can be kept for display here and there are number of currency notes that are looking awesome and all the new and and old collection is shown.
Had to work this weekend so no time for new pickups, working today but can't deprive this thread for too long or it'll die. So... ...here is a little gear switch, a 1929 Type 1 National from a Dallas bank (Dallas being one of my few National collection targets). This is from the ingeniously named Dallas National Bank, a rarer bank in Dallas, and this is only the 3rd known $20 (13 total small, no Type 2 released it doesn't appear). When you have a chance, you take what you can get, so despite some staining (maybe holder discoloring?), I snapped it up...
nationals are where the value is in the bill market right now, small sized especially because that market is undervalued in general, nice pickup
Work is whipping me, just got home and man what a day, but I got to post newps... here is a "finally" note, the 5 Cruzeiro can be tough in it's ABNCo glory because Brazil created a home brew 5 (the desing is absolute meh) they used and hence not as many of these hung around. It's not rare but it does take some doing to get in nice condition. I believe the image on the reverse is a depiction of the discovery of the Amazon river...
Funkee I don't know anything about paper money so this is probably a dumb question but what's special about the 2nd 20 in the left column?
The 1981A series of $20s had relatively short print runs, with most districts having just tens of millions of notes printed. So it's not a very common note among non-stars. The Philadelphia district had 57,600,000 notes printed. Compare that to 1985, which had 225,000,000 for Philly and 1,567,200,000 for New York.
