    Hey fellas,

I have chance to buy/trade for Morgan GSA CC's that are sealed in the white cardboard box they were originally shipped in, so no idea what year or condition they are in. Older gentleman received them in inheritance and has been selling them off.

What is a fair price in your opinion? Asking was $375 which I said no to, but he is open to $300 worth of bullion trade, so i was thinking maybe six proof eagles per sealed GSA.

Is that a fair deal or am I too high?

$300 is a good deal, you could turn around and make a little bit selling them on the bay. I would keep them, though, that's just me.:)

Would you buy a pig in a poke ? That's what you would be doing buying these. You have no idea what is inside, it might be something that is worth $60, it might be something that is worth $500. But what is the probability of it being worth more, or even as much, as you pay ?

So if you like throwing money away, go ahead and buy them. If you don't, walk away.

I have never seen a CC GSA worth $60? For $300 worth of bullion I figured my upside was greater than the downside. I'm not a flipper, just thought it would be a potentially rewarding way to add one to my collection.

They exist. There some of those GSA coins that are circulated, not MS. Also you need to realize that the '82, '83 & '84 coins outnumber all of the others combined by about 10 to 1. And all 3 of those dates are only worth about $200 each, unless you get lucky and get a 65 or higher. And the odds of that happening are way above 10 to 1.

So about your best case scenario would be that you would paying $100 too much for each coin you buy. Still seem like a good deal ?

If you want 1 or more GSA Morgans by all means buy them. But at least know in advance exactly what you are buying. You can buy an '82, '82, or '84 in MS63 or MS64 all day long for about $200.

Thanks for the feedback, that's what I was looking for. I won't do multiple buys, but I will find my least favorite/worst condition bullion pieces and use those to trade for one coin just for the fun of it and to add to my collection.

I would want a guarantee of a date so I know what I am getting. These are just one of those things I wouldn't buy sight unseen. If I were a gambler I would hope I would find an 1878 - 1881 with the CC.

I cannot say I have ever bought anything and didn't wanna see what I got - a good idea since the 2008 APE I bought I ended up returning to the mint since the rim was damaged like a lot of them were that year.

Just an update, I went ahead and made the deal for seven of them.......I got (2) 1882's; and 1883; and (4) 1884 and have found one VAM so far. They all look pretty good but nothing i will send it at this point. I will sell the extras and keep the one of each date.

If you add up the total bullion vallue (cull, stuff I no longer wanted, extras, etc) and subtact ebay fees, I probably came out $150 short but I new that was a possibility going in and considering this is how I am kicking of my morgan collection, it was Christmas morning opening those damn things up, so it was worth it to me...though not something I will do again.
