I need help to identify these 3 coins please. The first looks like a Dutch coin, because it has ``concordia res parvae crescunt`` on one side. It seems to be written ``6 S`` on the other side, meaning 6 stuivers. I've searched a lot but can't seem to find any other info. It could be brass, possibly meaning it's a token instead of a coin. http://postimg.org/image/y310eodjx/ http://postimg.org/image/f6qqh3mal/ http://postimg.org/image/konxin6vx/ http://postimg.org/image/gn28z8p7h/ The second could be silver, but I can't find my testing kit. It has a Celtic-looking symbol on it, but I can't find it. It also has weird markings on the obverse. http://postimg.org/image/aarp35bj1/ http://postimg.org/image/fi86tv2ql/ http://postimg.org/image/5rav3w49p/ http://postimg.org/image/51wo59t3x/ The third could also be silver, or could be a replica. It is very small and weighs less than a gram. One side looks like those Jewish Revolt coins, but it also has Arabic or Persian script on the other side. http://postimg.org/image/z7qh6ban1/ http://postimg.org/image/fr5rjsfj1/ http://postimg.org/image/3qkbj284d/ http://postimg.org/image/tamlphti5/ Thank you
Hi TPB, not sure how you have gone about loading the images, but they have come through as raw html, so I cannot help you. Are you able to load again using the forum upload file function?
I tried posting them using the upload file function, my files are ``.jpg``, but even then they don't work. I also tried using the image code, but it made my text unreadable and the images didn't appear. So, I thought the best solution was to post the link to the images. Thanks anyway!
Hi SecTPB - sorry for the delay in responding - I saw your pics first thing this morning but I have been out all day. Having said that, I am not sure how much help I can be: 1. Definitely is Netherlands in design, but I am struggling to find any combination of 6 Stuiver with a split lion shield and a knight reverse - most have a sailing ship reverse. Also yours looks brassy, and I would expect silver? Could it be a contemporary forgery of some sort? If the second half of the shield emblem is a second lion, that would suggest West Friesland province. I have the books only back to 1601 so I am not sure if this design might be earlier? 2. Looks more like a pendant from the Arts and Crafts movement - around 1890 to 1910. It has a hand made look about it, and the Celtic knot was a popular design. I can't work out much of the reverse - the zigzag pattern may relate to one of the schools of this movement. 3. Looks firmly Indian to me, but again not a regular coin - might be a temple token as the reverse seems to relate to some sort of offering. If you can find someone to read the obverse writing you would be closer. That's the best I can do!
Cannot really contribute anything here, except that there were several types of 6 stuiver coins then - the ship type that you mentioned (Scheepjesschelling) but also the Rijderschelling for example. As the name suggests, those feature a rider/horseman. Here is a similar coin from Friesland: http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/world-coin-prices.aspx?category=28150&worldcoinid=83696 , but I don't recognize the CoA either. If the lower part was an anchor cross, it could be Zutphen ... Christian
